@snowjewelz: Yep - I think most doctors probably hear about each other from patients all the time, and her recommendations for me were spot on!

@raspberries: Oo that's a good idea, asking the doctors I end up going to (if I like them) for other rec's!

I moved a few years ago and ran into a similar situation - I googled information on them, and most had a rating or two online.

My biggest break-through though, was finding my gynecologist by looking for ones who were most conveniently located. She's just fantastic, and when I told her I was new to town and looking for good doctors, she recommended my PCP and dermatologist, both of whom I love!

@snowjewelz: If there are no recommendations, I usually just make an appointment and see for myself if they seem like a good fit.

I would first look to who is covered under your insurance if that is an issue. Then I would look at the doctor's credentials. I'm picky about what schools my doctors attended. And then, yes, just go to a doctor and keep trying new ones until you feel comfortable. So sorry you don't have any referrals from friends. Its tough but you will find one!

I moved after I got married in May to a brand new town, all my old doctors are way too far away now.

I used to ask my co-workers for references, but now no one really lives in my town and everyone seems to go to doctors around their hometown and not close to work. We have no friends/family that live where we are either!

I looked up a bunch of doctors via our insurance's website & tried to google some with not much luck.

How do you bees find new doctors? Do you just pick one and go from there, switch next time if you don't like them?
