@Mrs. Twine: Observant little girl!

We have cloth bins on bookshelves for most toys, ehich works well for us.

We went out and bought a ton of large baskets for every room in natural material. And we're going to empty the bottom shelves of our bookshelves in the living room and put more baskets there that can be filled with toys. Between all the baskets, the built-in drawers in the nursery and the closets we will have enough room to rotate all of the gear and toys at least until future LO's first birthday!

I have found it really useful to have some storage that is in closed containers with lids. Things like blocks or little people that go together as a set. We have a similar bin as the primary colored one you posted and its great to just kinda throw toys into but they often all end up mixed together. Bins with lids help us keep "sets" together.

I think baskets would be perfect in the basement, it is out of sight and easier for them to get too what they want. You know how kids are, always have to get that toy at the very bottom of the basket = everything on the floor!

I love the look of natural material baskets (which would be my preference, really, and we do use some of), but Mr. T sold me on the practicality of modular. We have a lot of toys. Way too many. But since Ellie totally noticed and called me out when her Mulan doll was at the thrift store yesterday (oops!), you can imagine we have a hard time down-sizing.

I use a little bit of everything for storage, but I let my son decide how he wants to store them. We have shelves, bins, baskets, tupperware, boxes, etc.

We have baskets for blocks, Legos, puzzles, etc. I rotate them in and out of the closet.

I'm looking for functional toy storage for our family room/basement. I'm considering both modular systems and baskets. Since no one sees it unless we want them to, it doesn't have to be the most beautiful system in the world.
