Books $0.25 for paperbacks and $0.50 for hardbacks
Clothes $1 per piece and I would come down for people buying more than one item
Kitchen $5-$10 for appliances depending on what it is and the age
DVDs $1
Toys $5 or less

Our neighborhood just had a yard sale and I was surprised at how cheap everything was! It seemed like most clothes were priced at $3 , max (for adult, kids stuff was cheaper), books were 50 cents to a dollar, smaller appliances were $5 - $10. I think they priced it well bc I saw ppl carrying huge loads to their cars!

@TemperanceBrennan: +1

There are a lot of yard sales and stuff around her and most have one set price per type of item. Usually:
All clothes $1 (I bought a brand new with tags H&M dress and a few Forever 21 items at yard sales around here, all for $1 each)
DVDs $2
Toys $2/3
Most baby stuff: high chairs and such $5
Etc...

@knittylady: Sale was Friday and Saturday, stared to mark down at noon on Saturday. And pretty much was like "Make me an offer" at the end. I didn't want to take anything home (and didn't.) I either donated the rest to Goodwill or the local second hand store.

Just commented on your other post, but I have done it once where I just made signs that said "Make an offer" so you don't have to waste time pricing things. People might offer more than you were expecting, and if people ask less, you can negotiate.

It also works to put everything you want to sell for a $1 on one table with one sign. Or make signs like Books: $2, DVDs $2, etc

I'm all about making it as easy as possible.

I just did a garage sale a couple weeks ago:

Kid clothes - .50 - $3 depending on item
Adult clothes - Nice and name brands were $3-5
Coats - 7-10 dollars (25 for a brand new Columbia)
DVDs - $1-2
VHS - .25 (and then free wanted them gone)
CDs - $1 (then did buy one get one free at the end)
Household knickknacks/kitchen stuff - $1-5
Big pictures - $15-20
toys - $2-3 bigger items I did 5-10

I wanted stuff gone, so I priced on the lower end. It was a community garage sale so there were definitely some bargainers coming around.

I'm thinking about having a yard sale 1) because we're going to be moving sometime this summer and 2)we are overrun with... things!

How do/would you price various things? Books (hardcover and paperback), DVD's, clothes, kitchen stuff, baby toys, etc., etc.,
