Thanks all!! Hopefully the novelty will wear off soon and LO1 will stay playing with his magnatilea or whatever while I take the baby to his room. I don't take long - 5 minutes made- because I set him in his crib awake, but sometimes I have to go back a few times to replace a pacifier or rock him a bit.

It sounds like a lot of people just let the baby sleep in the carrier or out in the room with the toddler. I haven't had any luck with that. Lo2 seems to much prefer a quiet room and his crib though he will fall asleep in the car seat when we are out.

LO2 so far doesn't usually get the luxury of a lot of time with me before she naps. I just posted about this on another thread, but this is super challenging because I also like to limit screen time when possible--but LO1 likes to climb things she shouldn't, or bust into the room, etc.

For me, the issue is nursing--LO2 is a terrible BFer, and she has to be in a dark and silent room to eat. After she's fed, she doesn't even get the luxury of being rocked or anything else--I just lay her down awake and go back to LO1. If the baby cries a lot, I got back in and replace the paci, but I don't hang out too long.

For LO1, I try different things--get out magnatiles, get out her regular blocks, get out something she hasn't seen in a while like a sticker book I've kept hidden. Or I get out fingerpaints and she makes a giant mess--it's washable, so I just clean it all when I come back out.

Sometimes LO1 will quietly "read" books on the bed next to me while I nurse LO2. There's no one strategy that works all the time; I kind of have to cycle through all of them. And then TV is my back up when all else fails, haha

We used the swing for months and I just toOK LO1 upstairs or outside. For the midday nap I would put LO2 in the bouncy seat while getting LO1 down and then get LO2 down for an actual crib nap. And yeah too much tv. It will get easier as the baby naps and nursed less often!

I'm glad you asked because I have no idea! Right now the baby is so little that she just falls asleep in the living room either nursing or being bounced while I talk to the toddler. But I know soon enough it will be in the bedroom in the dark and the toddler will need to be entertained!

I stay at home with both boys (2.5 and 2 months) two days a week, and am finding it difficult to put LO2 down for nap (what seems like every other hour) with LO1 home also. I've resorted to using TV time while I'm getting the youngest to sleep. This keeps LO1 occupied. If I don't use TV, I'll either 1) come back to him having done something he shouldn't (luckily nothing dangerous but that worries me) or 2) he'll bust in the room while I get LO2 drowsy.

Any tips for handling put down without TV? Before Lo2, we rarely watched Tv at all. If it was only one nap a day that would be one thing, but I feel like I'm turning it on every five seconds (exaggeration).

Bonus points for suggestions on keeping LO1 fairly quiet while Lo2 is napping. I didn't realize how piercing his voice was!!
