@looch: That's ingenious! I feel awful letting DH eat E's Easter Eggs (I cant eat chocolate) but I really don't want her to eat so much of it. I'm going to suggest he "buys" it - she can have an awesome gift in return, so I wont feel like I've stolen her chocolate!

DS didn't get any chocolate, but has some candy that came inside his Easter Eggs. He's allowed once piece after dinner. Since we are leaving for vacation on Friday, he will probably forget about it.

M got some chocolate and had a small piece yesterday but honestly, I think she's already forgotten about it/over it and is more interested in the books/markers/stickers she got. I'll let her have a piece here and there though as a treat.

Dd is only 15 months old, so doesn't quite get it. But my mil did give her a ton a candy, most of which were Hershey miniatures or kisses, which she can't eat. She didn't realize she could eat them and instead they were fun toys to put in and out of her basket. I did give her a Reese's egg, but then brought the rest, including her chocolate bunny, into work.

We let her have a small amount and then "put them away for later". So far after both Halloween and Christmas, she has totally forgotten about her treats by the next day and I have been able to just bring them into work to give away. It remains to be seen if it will work for Easter, but we held her to only a couple small chocolates yesterday and the rest are in the pantry. She's only 2.5 so not sure how much longer this strategy will work. The good news is, she seems to have the ability to cut herself off even when she does have a lot to eat (like if we give her a large cookie, she won't finish it).

My son remembers what he gets, you can't convince him that he got one chocolate bunny when he knows he got 5...so what we do is to have him offer it to family members in exchange for something else, either $5 to go play at the arcade or a small toy that he has been wanting.

DS is 18 months. He did not get any chocolate, but his passion in life is mini marshmallows. He usually gets a few after taking medicine or as a treat, and he usually eats them one at a time, so I got him two plastic eggs with marshmallows inside. But after I saw him try to shotgun an egg in one go, I threw the other egg at DH to hide and put the marshmallows out one by one so he could slow his roll. I don't think I'm going to give him his Peeps. He will probably get the other egg later at snack time and after dinner. It sucks because he has a fit when they are all gone but I guess that's just Easter.

I let her do what she wants and toss the rest at the end of the night. Unless it's really good candy I'll put it away and she can have some a couple times a week. My personal feeling is that one day of gorging isn't going to hurt her, I did it as a kid and have a very healthy relationship with food and my body and learned how not to act like a crazed person around sweets. She actually had candy instead of lunch today lol

We gave LO some chocolate eggs and she has had 0. We gave her Peeps and she took one bite and said no thank you. And I gave her an Easter Pez dispenser and she ate about 5 Pez candies.

Me on the other hand?
-2 hot cross buns
-4 easter butter cookies
-mug of brandy mocha

And I'm sure I'll be digging into those chocolates later.

Today I let her feast. Tomorrow and the rest of the week I will ration - ie she can have some after supper for dessert. And then by Friday she will have forgotten about it and whatever is left will get thrown out or donated to mommy and daddy :)

TBH they will likely forget about most of them after the opening. We let DD1 (almost 4) have some m&ms after her breakfast. I filled their eggs with animal and bunny crackers so they gorged on those before breakfast. They both got a sugar free bunny and a small m&m egg in their basket. DD2 hasn't even asked for them because she just doesn't know!

I know they will be getting a lot more sweets when we see family later. Well let her have some then hide the rest. Read: mommy eat them. :P

I let her gorge a bit, then ration. So this morning, she's had 6 mini-eggs and the head of her bunny (and she only had her hunt an hour ago). I'll let her have more this afternoon. To me, the faster it's gone the better.

Usually what I do is snag some before he sees them. Otherwise, he can gorge a little, and we hide and ration the rest. It's becoming harder as he's getting older and wise to our ways!

We tried to limit the amount of chocolate we gave him - 4 little chocolate chicks, and then some Smarties in eggs. I asked my parents to not buy him chocolate so they, of course, bought him a big Lindor bunny, but luckily he was only interested in the ribbon with a bell around its neck and I was able to hide the rabbit. He's already eaten 2 of the chicks and I put the other 2 away while he was distracted. We'll see how it goes, though, because when I asked if he wanted jam or yogurt on his pancake he said he wanted chocolate.

This is our first Easter with all the zillions of chocolate eggs. Even my eight-month-old has a stash! Obviously the baby won't be getting any. The three-year-old will get half an egg a day until they're gone. If some accidentally get eaten by me and DH it's all good :silly:

@Foodnerd81: We only bought her one little egg (it was actually a small chocolate hen with an even smaller chocolate egg), but family went mad this year!

She's been really good today at self regulation. She has asked for chocolate twice but, both times, she had a few bites then asked me to put it back in the fridge.

I think we will do the same we did for Halloween- she can have one treat a day, after lunch or dinner or for afternoon snack, she can choose. Until they are gone or she forgets to ask. I purposely only gave her things in reasonable sizes, like I got fun size packs of m&ms instead of a big bag. Yes it is a lot for many days in a row but i think she will start to forget if it's out of sight.

The tradition here is simply to give Easter Eggs - large chocolate eggs, usually with sweets inside. E has received 8 this year.

When I was little, I was allowed to gorge myself on them until they were all gone. They were frequently scoffed by the end of Easter Sunday.

I want to ration them..... perhaps let her have a piece of chocolate egg every day? But that's still a lot of chocolate for a little body. Up until now, we've been using chocolate as a reward for pooping in the toilet.... but surely its a bit mean to expect her earn things that are already hers?

How do you manage this situation?
