If there was enough support behind the safety measures hopefully they could get pushed through, because on some level there must have been similar arguments about airbags and seat belts once upon a time. I honestly had no idea this even happened! I couldn't put my 8 week old down yesterday after I read the article :( . I mentioned it to my partner immediately when he came home from work.</p> <p>I agree with @NovBaby1112: that this should be raised when you take your baby home from the hospital. We had to read and sign off on materials about SIDS and shaken baby syndrome, and those issues I feel like are so well publicized that it was almost overkill, but this is just a horrible, preventable tragedy. It helps that he has to go a totally opposite way to take her. I buckle it into the passenger seat. I also put my lunch box, pump, and the bag with my work keys in the back. Once, when she was very young (around 5 months) and her daycare was directly on my route to work, I drove about .25 miles past her daycare forgetting that I needed to stop and leave her. I was absorbed in what I needed to get done that day and just drove past. It scared me!</p> <p>Now I have to go out of my way to the daycare and I take her 99.5% of the time. It makes me think that she would definitely call if we just didn't show up for daycare one day like that baby didn't. </p> <p>I'm really scared of doing this because drop LO off 4 days a week so am not in a 100% drop off routine. I started parking in a parking garage rather than the parking lot at work as an extra precaution. Sounds morbid but I think it would buy me more time to realize a mistake.</p> <p>Whenever I get out of my car at my apartment without LO my neighbors always ask if I forgot her in the car. Neither DD or DS are very quiet so that helps me not forget them. I put DD/DS' stuff in the front seat with me and if I get to work and it is still there then they are too. I think the worst part of the article was when the founder of the organization said that one baby girl pulled out all her hair before she died. </p> <p>There was the recent story of the mom who was consumed with her own grief over one of her employees committing suicide, as well as being overwhelmed with planning for her daughter's first birthday party, that she forgot to drop her daughter off at daycare and the little girl died. She ended up having the funeral for her on the day that was supposed to be her first birthday party. Devastating. </p> <p>Right now, we have a nanny who comes to our house so we don't ever take LO to any location where she's not with us. But, I am petrified of this happening to me or DH and it weighs on me greatly.
