Yesterday for the first time ever I successfully ignored her whinyness and it worked. I had just gotten home from running errands and she was overtired and crabby and wanted to feed me my dinner. I really just wanted to sit and eat. I took her hands, looked her in the eye and said "Mommy is going to eat her own dinner, I understand you're sad but you don't get to whine about it." Then I put her down and ignored her complaining for a good 5 minutes before she gave up and walked over to her toys to play. Longest 5 minutes ever!

I'd love to read the responses to this as well! My youngest whines to no end all day long. In some ways I can't wait until he can talk more. That's part of the reason. He says "uh" to everything and after a while it just sounds whiny and my ears hurt. :P I just keep trying to figure out what he wants until he stops whining. I'm getting pretty good at it now. He's 21 months, btw.

I want ____! I want ____. I want ____!

Uppy, milk, water, read, books, snack, Daddy, kitty....the list can go on for days!

How do you deal with whining?
