Usually right on the island where we eat (she sits in a lobster chair) or in an EZPZ mat (suction placemat/divided plate in one).

16 months and most of the time we use a plastic plate on the tray. She used to dump her food a lot, but it has improved with time. Key was her learning to say "all done" and handing us the plate with her cup and spoon/fork when she is done. Most of the time if we take it right away and praise her, she won't dump it. If she dumps her food, we remind her that she is telling us she is done (no food given back if it is dumped).

We just started plates with our 16 month old yesterday. She has used them occasionally at my moms but she behaves completely differently for than me. So far it's gone well but we also got a new kitchen table that finally made space for her to actually eat at the table with us so it may not be so hot after the novelty wears off

I swear my almost 12 month old thinks we are challenging her with suction plates/bowls. Those she plays with but for the most part she just eats off of the plain plastic ones.

At 12 months, food was still on her tray. At 16 months, she desperately wants to be a big girl and do everything herself, so she's pretty good with a bowl and spoon. She's also a voracious eater, so she doesn't want to waste food by throwing it on the floor. Lol!

DD is almost 19 months and we still use the highchair tray when we're home. The tray has an attachment so we put her food on there and then put it on top of the the original tray. It's really easy to wash in between meals too. When we're out we use a plate or a plastic place mat.

We have a chair that attaches to the table and use a silicone placemat. My husband tries a bowl every so often. I'd love an EZPZ because my husband seems to think it's "improper" to not have her using a plate and utensils. It doesn't hurt her to try but sometimes I have to bite my tongue because he gets so frustrated trying!

LO is almost 14 mos & we definitely serve her on her tray. I have a suction cup bowl, but haven't even tried it yet. Soupy stuff we spoon feed her out of another bowl that has a side handle.

On the tray, or on the bench seats to our table if she's hungry but won't sit. Whatever. Sitting still for a long meal is a skill we work on later, in this family. All I care is that she eats.

I think we tried the suction cup plates but they didn't work so we went with the tray for a while. But we hated having to hand wash the entire tray and have it ready for every meal vs putting a plate in the dishwasher, so the tray didn't really last all that long.

Almost 14 months, and I haven't even considered plates yet. The way it is, I have plenty of food flung around the entire kitchen. I can only imagine how much of a mess it would be if I added a plate or bowl into the mix!

At about 18 months we stopped using the tray and converted the high chair to pull up to the table. Both girls (20 months and 3.5 years) use IKEA Kalas plates, bowls and cups.

16 months and still on her tray! I try using plates but she dumps the food onto her tray (or the floor!) I personally don't think it's a big deal yet. Tell your MIL that your LO is 1 and to chill :silly:
