@Jess1483 is exactly right!

I prefer Hanukkah. I don't know why, but the 'Ch' versions always bugged me.

I'm not Jewish, but I studied Hebrew in college. It's difficult to transliterate Hannukah because not every Hebrew letter corresponds exactly with an English letter. In Biblical Hebrew (may also be true in modern Hebrew, but it's not what I studied), there also generally aren't vowels. So a lot of words cant really be transliterated exactly.

Hannukah starts with the Hebrew letter Chet, which is sort of in between a ch sound and an h, but isn't really either.

I spell it with a H. I grew up with a lot of Jewish kids and that's how they spelled it.

Hanukkah.

I'm thinking since it's a transliteration of a non-English word, people spell it different ways to capture the pronunciation. Like in chanukah the "ch" sound is the gutteral sound that doesn't exist in English.

Hanukkah. And why is it spelled a million different ways?

I was raised Catholic and wasn't exposed to other religions until I got to college and spent time with people from religions other than my own. So, I'm curious how you spell Hanukkah (I spell it that way because that's what auto-correct tells me to do). And why are there so many different ways to spell it?

I know I could Google this but I'm just looking to hear from Bees. :)
