I don't. What I mean by that is it's really hard with the extreme time difference. Plus, I'm a little put off because I've been the only one calling. I get that international calls cost money, but there's Skype and Facetime. I don't get why I'm the only one that calls, or that holiday cards rarely come, yet when it's for a gift registry, I get the card early. I'm a mom now, I don't have time for one way friendships.

But there are a few that keep in touch via FB, now IG.

Facebook. I ran into a girl at the grocery store last week that I literally hadn't seen since high school, 5 years ago. We keep in touch on FB occasionally and we connected again in person like those 5 years never happened. One good thing about FB!

My close friends from high school and university are in Canada and I'm in Australia, so we keep in touch over facebook and email but unfortunately since I've been gone almost 9 years its become less and less frequent. Still, when I travel home I always make an effort to see them a few times and many of them have been over to visit.
With my friends here, my bestie moved to Melbourne this year from Sydney and due to her work she will be moving cities every year for the foreseeable future. We talk on the phone at least once a week and facebook chat probably 3 nights a week. She stays with my husband and I when she is in town and is throwing me my baby shower even though she has to plan it from afar! My other friends it depends - usually text, emails, and catching up in person. Its easy now that I don't have a baby yet, I'm sure keeping in touch will get harder once he or she is here.
I think as I've gotten older a lot of friendships have fallen by the wayside but the ones i've kept have grown stronger. It makes me feel like a loser sometimes to be able to count my close friends on maximum 2 hands, but I suppose thats just what happens!

I have a group of 6 girlfriends who we've always been close, we always joke that each of us 'serves a purpose'. I'm usually the secret keeper/comic relief. Then there is practical, emotional/softie, fix-it(provides options to help w/problems) and we just try.to support each other how we can. 4 of 6 have kids, one is trying desperately and the other doesn't want any. That hasn't affected our dynamic too much. We all love one another fiercely.

I will say it's easier to share stories about j to the girls who have kids but the other two girls love him just as much! It's harder for our friend who hasn't gotten her BFP to hear stories bc she so badly wants it for herself, but she is so so amazing and spoils the kids like they were her own.

Lord this makes me miss mY girls!!! :(

I'm terrible about calling and talking on the phone! I'm even bad at texting! I'm known to leave my vmails unheard for a week at a time... I'm definitely not a phone person.

I'm also not a gchat person because it stresses me out a little to have an ongoing conversation when I need to be multitasking. I always feel bad for leaving someone hanging. I guess I like the flexibility of email haha - I can respond on my own time!

I still live within a 25 mile radius of where I grew up and so do all of my bridesmaids. So it's been easy to keep in touch via texting and also meeting up for lunch or dinner. Some of us moved away for college for a few years then returned home to start the next chapter of our lives, marriage and children. 2 other really close friends live in Boston and SF so I KIT with texting and FB.

I have a constant text/gchat conversation going with my BFF...literally constant, every day. We don't even say hi/bye anymore, just pick up where we left off even if it's been a few hours since either of us said anything.

Another group of friends, we have a private FB group that we post in, usually daily.

For friends that live close, we try and get together at least once a month, and usually text randomly in between.

I really only have one close friend and she moved out of state. :( Over the last couple of months, we've been keeping up with emailing each other. We try to keep them short just so it's easier to respond. It's really helped us feel close even though she is so far away now.

IM and Gtalk! We also see each other at least every month. We don't all talk every single day but we talk and see each other enough to keep our relationships going. But I agree that it's much harder as you get older. :(

The post about the bridal party got me thinking... how do you stay in touch with close friends? I'm still really close to my entire bridal party even though none of them even live in my same city anymore. We keep in touch by maintaining a consistent thread on gmail, and we write to each other throughout the day. The emails aren't very long - just a few sentences about how work's going, family stuff, our weekend plans, etc.

I have 3 of these types of threads that I keep up with. One is with 2 friends that are also close to each other, another is with 2 other friends that are also close to each other, and one last thread that's one-on-one with me and this one other girl. These threads also keep me sane when work gets slow..

How do you maintain friendships? It's harder and harder as life goes on because everyone gets so busy!
