I think if she's hungry, she needs to eat something. I'd give fruit, so that she wouldn't be starving, but she wouldn't be full.

@Espion: This is what happens to us to. I just have gotten to where I don't force him eating dinner. He will usually eat again later in the evening. I figure it will work out over time where he isn't needing a snack at 4:45

Ugh. This is so tough. I think we're going to try to cut back to just an applesauce pouch for now. It's just so hard when she says "I'm hungry!" But I know waiting is good for her.

Our daycare gives a snack (basically the rest of their lunch) at 4:30. Result: E is almost never hungry for dinner. We basically count that as dinner, because he almost never eats his lunch at lunchtime. :/

Gosh, this is a tough one for me, because if my son is legit hungry, I have to make sure he eats at that moment otherwise he will lose his appetite.

I have no advice because we are in the same boat. Except I pick her up around 6 and we eat around 7/7:30. Our drive home from daycare is about 30 minutes and I know if we stopped the snacks I'd have to listen to her whine and cry the whole way home, which I just can't handle right now.

I'd just give a smaller snack.

Cold turkey! We had this issue too after swim class! And even short car rides. We just stopped cold turkey. We have milk for him if he really needs something, after the first couple times, he hasn't asked for it and "reads" in the carseat now.

We started a bad habit when our lo started at this new daycare of giving her snacks on the car ride home. She is always hungry after school (it seems). She gets home at 4:45 and we eat dinner at 5:45/6. After eating the snacks, she isn't all that hungry for dinner (naturally). So, suggestions on how to stop the snacking habit?
