@mrbee: I have more fun talking to my male coworkers about my pregnancy than I do my female coworkers. The guys are always genuine and usually really funny (in a nice, I just want to make you laugh kind of way) but the women can be catty and chock full of unwanted advice. And I feel like I'm a little more lenient when the guys ask me an inappropriate question, because I feel like they don't realize it's inappropriate. But my male coworkers are also way closer in age to me than my female coworkers (all of us staff accountants are 22-25 and I'm the only female staff accountant).

@mrbee: I have no issues talking to men about my pregnancy! I am super open though so I rarely consider a question inappropriate. I think the fact that I was raised by a nurse makes me unusually open about all things pertaining to the human body.

@swurlygurl: I have the same outlook as you do.

I think it is nice that people care enough to ak about you and the baby and in some cases I think people think there are suppose to ask questions related to the pregnacny to show they care and just aren't sure exactly what to ask.

I never in 3 pregnancies had people ask anything wildly inappropriate and if they asked something that made me feel uncomfortable I usually gave a general response and changed the subject. I also have learned the more you talk about the things the more people think you are open to sharing information.

@LuLu Mom: Haha!

I'm pretty open, and don't mind sharing if someone actually cares (I don't assume everyone cares about my dilation, so I don't go around talking about it though).

I think the whole process is beautiful and natural, so I love talking about it.

However, people should not just assume everyone's that way. I can understand how people get uncomfortable about questions - it's really personal! When asked awkward questions, you should just give them some sort of 'wtf' look, and tell them that you'd rather not talk about it. Or ask them something equally ridiculous about their privates. :P

@Foodnerd81: Yes, I thought it was weird, and why does someone want to know? I mean come one, I could see after the fact but not before.

@LuLu Mom: Haha. That's sort of a weird question to ask anyway regardless of the terminology. That said-- I never know what term to use for a "vaginal delivery" in any context-- people default to natural, because it sounds nicer, but really natural to me is without meds (like no induction) where you can be induced, but deliver vaginally... Then I get flustered and come close to doing hand motions to indicate and have to stop myself!

In terms of dilation I would probably just reply that the baby will come when he/she is ready and you aren't rushing anything. If the questions go on from there, just say that dilation isn't necessarily indicative of how close you are to delivering so it really isn't important. Hopefully that is enough to dissuade them or give you an indication that you should just walk away.

@mrbee: The most *invasive* questions I was asked came from men . . . and I bet their wives would cringe if they knew what their husbands diclosed about their deliveries!

@mrbee: haha I actually talk with a couple of my male co-workers about my pregnancy quite often. I think though, that if questions started to wander to the vagina area I might start to feel a little weird? I'm not sure though because I haven't dealt with it. I'm pretty open about a lot of topics though so maybe it will be fine. I have (so far) no issues with talking to men about my pregnancy.

@mrbee: hahah MrBee!!! Sorry, I didn't mean to make it sound like pregnancy topic in general was off limits. I don't mind when men ask me if I know what I'm having, when I'm due, etc. :) It's just the "delivery room" talk that would make me squeamish

One of DH's MALE coworkers asked him if I was dilated. I'm 40w3d. I thought that was pretty gross, it made DH feel uncomfortable!

No advice, I don't know how to stop it! I have been avoiding people and that's worked out so far :P

Thankfully, I haven't experienced any regarding my pregnancy YET. But my sister's due date was yesterday (EEEE how exciting! no baby yet), and someone asked me if her cervix was dilated yet! First of all, my sister and I are closer than close, and maybe it seems ridiculous, but we do not discuss cervixes with each other! (Weird I know - sorry :p)

Anyway- I'm dreading the day that someone asks me or my DH about the State of My Cervix. Is there a polite way to tell them to shut up? (lol.)

And birthing plan? If coming from a woman or girl friend that won't make me feel weird. But there's several men in my office who I have a feeling will think it OK to ask about that, and I would feel weird discussing it. Any polite replies to that?

Feel free to post any other inappropriate questions you've gotten and your replies! :)
