But to be honest, I don't really surprise Rob Sr. anymore (I prefer to do things like "you need a new briefcase, let's splurge on a nice Coach one for your birthday") and I prefer for him not to surprise me anymore... sometimes he'll surprise me like "let's get you a new handbag", but I prefer to pick it out myself.</p> <p>Not as romantic, but we collected a lot of clutter over the years and I prefer gifts that are guaranteed to be used! And going shopping as a family to pick it out together turns out to be a fun event too. I just bought him a pretty expensive gift (online, they don't carry them in stores yet because it's a summer item) and I paid with my mom's credit card and gave her cash.
