We did it cold turkey. His sleep was so bad at that point that it made no difference.

Ugh, we had to swaddle wean because DD was rolling over while swaddled... >:-(

First we left one arm completely out for 3 nights, then both arms completely out for 3 nights while still wrapping the tummy tight, and then we were able to put her down without anything, even a sleep sack.

She didn't have a problem with any of those steps though, so I wouldn't know what to do if she had :/

@Smurfette: I was just wondering this same thing. DS will be 3 months on Friday and lately he has been busting out of swaddles to chew on his hands. I've tried to put him down for naps unswaddled, but he chews his hands the whole time and won't fall asleep. As soon as I swaddle him he is OUT. When he stays swaddled he sleeps pretty well (12 hours last night, and up only once at 3:30 to eat...definitely not the norm but it was awesome) but as soon as he gets an arm out, he's awake. I have no idea how to get him used to being unswaddled!

We have major sleep issues going on at the Smurf household. R is still getting over a cold so she sometimes wakes up coughing. The 4 months sleep regression is getting us. She is also starting to break out of the swaddle. The last two nights when she wakes up, I nurse her back to sleep, and then she keeps moving till I took her arms out. She is starting to scoot herself around completely in her crib, so I think we should get rid of the swaddle. Just add that to why we aren't sleeping.

I tried the other night to get her to sleep with her arms out and she didn't settle down. Right now we are using a Halo Swaddle Sack.

How did you do it? Tips? Suggestions?
