@bree72: Glad it's working! We still do this with my 3 year old son and it works even better now that he's a full on toddler. What's funny is that the "countdown" actually taught him to say his numbers too. Now, we do the countdown backwards and he's learned to say them backwards now. Two birds with one stone! :)

@banana: Hey there! Just wanted to let you know that I've been counting a lot more lately at your suggestion and it's been working fairly well. I count to 5 or 10 and just repeat to finish the task. It's been really helpful during diaper changes, which are always a battle. Just wanted to say thanks for the tip!

I remember my son doing that too around that age. What helped us what doing the "count down". Every time he was waiting for something (usually it was food), I would say "Ok now we WAIT. 1...2...3...4..." and count to 20. Once I hit 20 I would say "OK!!!! 20!!!! Time to EAT! Here you go!!!" (like super animated). Eventually he understood the concept of the countdown. Now (as a 3 year old) he does it to himself! If I say, "you have to wait". He'll say "Ok wait! 1...2...3...4....5....". :)

My 10 month old son is very much like his mother in that when he's ready to eat, he gets "hangry." But since he's 10 months old, he doesn't wait patiently, but instead sits there and screams at me.

Dinner time is the worst. He goes the longest without food during his wake hour between his last bottle and dinner (3-4 hours) and ill try to give him some Cheerios to hold him over, but if he sees me in the kitchen, he's under my feet yelling because he wants food now!

Anyone else have this problem? I'm trying to be calm and teach him to be patient, but he does not want to hear it. At this point, he's getting an entirely different dinner than my husband and I so that its just something I can heat up quickly. Then I feed him while I cook for us. I'd like to eat dinner together one day...
