I did pretty much the same as @thismustbetheplace: -- if I woke up after a certain time, I'd just take the temp then and put a comment in FF. If I woke up before that time, I'd try to go back to sleep and take it at regular time, but also put a note.

If I had several drinks the night before, I didn't even bother temping-- why wake yourself up early when you know it's going to be wacky?

@IRunForFun: I forgot to add, if you drink alcohol the night before AND sleep poorly, the temp is likely to be off (mine is usually high). I will usually discard that reading.

@Mrs Green Grass: Thanks! I do plan on using OPKs as well.

@thismustbetheplace: That's really helpful! I'll start off by trying to take my temp when I have had a long enough stretch of sleep, not just at the same exact time every day, and see what happens.

I'd like to know this too! P is just 1 year so I still wake through the night (until recently it was quite often).

First I tried temping at the same time everyday, when DH would get up BUT often times I had just recently (within the last 1.5-2 hours) woken up with P.... THEN I tried temping after my longest stretch of sleep regardless of the time. Both gave me really crazy charts so idk if maybe I just had wonky charts since I'm still bf'ing or is neither worked for me.

I've basically given up... I'll try some OPK's here in the near future.

I'm the exact same way. I've modified the TCOYF recommendations a bit and my temping has been going pretty well (been doing it since Jan '12)

My alarm goes off at 6am every morning. If the last time I woke up was BEFORE 4am: I roll over, stick the thermometer in my mouth and try not to fall asleep while it reads :) then I get up and start my day.

If I woke up AFTER 4am: I will usually take my temp at that waking, before I get up to pee/drink etc. I don't read it again at 6am. I don't usually even change the temp time in FF if I do it early, it hasn't seemed to make any difference.

My inclination (and correct me if i'm wrong) that the "same time every day" is less about what the clock says and more about taking your temp when your body has reached it's 'base' temp. For most people/good sleepers this IS at the same time every day. For us, we just have to do it when we've been sleeping for long enough to get to our basal body temp.

Here's a link to my FF for reference: http://www.fertilityfriend.com/home/3a410b

Unfortunately, not really. You need to have a good stretch in a row for the temp to be accurate. I had to work on stopping peeing in the middle if the night.

BUT...try for awhile and see how consistent your temp tends to be. Mine didn't seem to fluctuate a whole lot if I woke up early. You might be lucky, but temping might not be the tactic for you.

You could do opks or the clear blue monitor instead.

I'm the world's lightest sleeper and my sleep is always really erratic. I wake up many times throughout the night, toss and turn, get up anywhere from 1 to 3 times to pee or get a drink, and on a semi-regular basis, give up on sleeping in bed and move to the couch to watch TV.

I understand when you're temping you're supposed to be really consistent and take it at the same time every morning, before you've moved at all and before you're even fully awake. That's pretty much impossible for me.

Is there any way I can temp/chart reliably when I sleep like crap? Or do I just have to take my temp at the same time every morning and hope it is semi-accurate?
