Don't treat. Unless she's clearly miserable or it reaches a certain number.

We trade back and forth with Motrin and Tylenol. I've noticed that the Motrin works better for my DS.
The doctor told us we could give them closer together in time if we alternated. Our doctor had a cheat sheet for weight to Ml to I like referring to. You might ask your's for one

I'm in the same boat as @QBbride:, @Freckles: and @looch: and got the same advice from my ped as @Canoli:. We treat the symptoms, not the number. If LO is acting normal / not fussy or uncomfortable, we don't give him anything. We've had fevers over 104 when he had Influenza A when he was 10 mos old and again with some mystery virus over the summer. We medicated when he was fussy, but otherwise just made sure he was drinking lots of fluids and changed his jammies / sheets if he ended up drenched from the fever swings.

That said, when we medicate, we use children's motrin / ibuprofen and not acetaminophen / Tylenol. There is epidemiological evidence that there is a link between acetaminophen usage in children and wheezing disorders (incl. asthma). The researchers have compared acetaminophen with ibuprofen and did not find the same respiratory issues with ibuprofen use.

Since LO is a preemie with lousy lungs, we're risk-averse to things with a potential for adverse pulmonary reactions.

Here's an interesting NY Times article on the subject from 2011: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/12/20/health/evidence-mounts-linking-acetaminophen-and-asthma.html?_r=0

And here's a more recent scientific journal article:
http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/782029_13

I hope your LO is better quickly!

(and sorry for the wall of text; I'm a nerd, I can't help myself)

We have been dealing with fevers with my LO this week. First the doc thought it was the flu or something viral. He kept spiking up to 104. Went back yesterday and it's an ear infection. I never know when to treat or just let the body do its thing but the ped said treat your baby not the number so if he seems uncomfortable treat it but if acting normal than don't. This really stuck with me and I'm going to do that moving forward.

I don't treat the fever, I look for the signs of other illness, which for us, has historically been ear infections. Then I treat that and the fever usually resolves itself.

I agree with @QBbride: if she is still acting more or less the same, no need to give her any meds. The fever will break on its own naturally. I would just make sure she got lots of fluids and rest. Hope she feels better soon!

Lukewarm baths if it gets really high, alternate Tylenol and Advil. They say to treat the symptoms rather than the number so if it wasn't bugging her I wouldn't treat it! A low grade fever helps the immune system kick into gear!

Somehow we've managed to get through 2.5 years without much of a fever. But tonight E developed a 102 fever, after a few days of sniffles, sneezing, and coughing. I'm not too worried about her because she's acting pretty normal. But obviously I don't want it to get worse. So far I've given her some Advil and taken off her long sleeve shirt so she can cool down a bit. Do you mamas have any other magic tips??
