Exercise, a funny TV show or good book, actually letting myself cry, watching cute videos of DD, calling my mom, making some of my favorite (expensive!) special treat tea.

I’ve had it hard lately. And today I could not work due to my shoulder and neck being locked up. It’s been a weird month. Usually audiobooks distract me.

My boss keeps a couple bottles of emergency wine in her desk for when we’re having a bad day 😉.

I like to read, do some online shopping, or some vacation planning. Or I text DH and he can usually cheer me up.

Yesterday started well but then devolved progressively into a dook spiral (TLDR: my paycheck got lost and wont be replaced for a while, a rock smashed my windshield, work was garbage, both my kids each had separate, hour-long meltdowns last night, the house is completely wrecked after the long Easter weekend, etc). I was splayed chalk-outline style on my bed after the kids went to sleep and wanted to just lay there and die, but DH got me up and I ended up watching a show on Netflix and got in a 45 minute run/walk on our treadmill. Then I ate some chocolate, cleaned the house, and despite going to bed really late because I was cleaning, I feel awesome today. So, I agree with @erinbaderin: that the suggestion to exercise would be annoying, butttt it totally worked for me.

On a day to day basis, I try to do one intentional self-care thing for myself each day. Yesterday I woke up 20 minutes early, left home, and used a Starbucks reward to get myself a free iced coffee on the way to work. Today, I probably going to take a walk out in the sunshine and maybe do some window shopping during my lunch break. Tomorrow I will probably redeem a free birthday reward for a sandwich for lunch at a restaurant that is about at 15 minute walk away, which will help me get some exercise too. Tonight, I'm going to prioritize getting to bed earlier since I was up late last night. I just need to do small things each day to remind MYSELF that I matter to ME and that I'm worth small, kind gestures like that for no reason at all.

I'm with you babe! I was very down today at work and it sucks when you're in environment that can't change your mood quickly. What I like to do is watch videos of my kids. Knowing that I'll be home to them soon and being able to see their adorable faces always helps.

I had a super frustrating morning today so I went to the gym and ran, which helped. That is the kind of suggestion that I would hate, though, so my preferred option is a glass of wine and a trashy show in the Real Housewives oeuvre after the kids are in bed. At work I also make a point of taking my lunch hour and reading a book for half an hour just to get some distance.

@Ajsmommy: Awww I am so sorry!

Thank you for this post, I was pretty down / rock bottom over the weekend. I am trying to find my way back up as well. So please trust that you are not alone and hopefully that makes you feel a little better...

For work, when it gets really bad, I just tell myself that what goes down must come up. So this point onward, believe that it is just going to get better because there is no more down as you are already there :-) And if you could, can you leave work a little early and reset for tomorrow? Or just a coffee break (as in walk out of your building, and buy a coffee in a cafe - this takes 5-10 mins) with a trusted coworker, and vent a little? For sure you need a glass of wine tonight at dinner. I hope you feel better soon, sending good thoughts!

I look at houses, plan my major life milestones for the next 5 years in a spreadsheet, start forecasting the completion of our financial goals, knock out smaller work tasks, do a little lunch shopping break, reread favorite scenes from my favorite books, research my next baking recipe/adventure, update my resume/LinkedIn with cool stuff I have accomplished at work, look up old friends on Facebook/LinkedIn and see what they're up to, look at pictures of my kids, fill my calendar with future things I want to do.

Yeah, I have lots of coping techniques after going through a horrible year at my previous company ;)

Following. I'm in a major funk. What helps me the most is having something to look forward to - a fun event, a trip, someone coming to visit, date night, etc. I also really love doing experience kind of things so if I can plan something like that, it helps. For example, I used to go ballroom and swing dancing (which I rarely do now with a kid) and making the time to do that, or go ice skating or something different, is really fun to me. Also a glass of wine. LOL

Also physically writing out a to-do list and getting some crap done, even if it's minor, usually makes me feel better and relieves a little stress.

Unfortunately I'm 32 weeks pregnant so I feel like I can't do anything fun, we have no childcare for date nights, my 2yo is a terror so I can't leave him with anyone regardless and it's about to get a heck of a lot worse with a newborn. So I'm very depressed. :crying:

When I am having one of those days at work which has been most days lately, I look at photos of my kids or think of silly things they say. I also try to check in with friends who I know are also going through hard times - helping other people helps me forget about the things that annoy me.

The thing I'm excited about right now is my baby's 2nd birthday is on Thursday! I just can't believe it's been 2 years!

As to stress relief at home, I like to sew; and it makes it even better because I found a charity last year to sew for. So I make tiny preemie shirts for babies in NICUs that are too small for regular clothes. (and I get to buy super girly fabric for these shirts, because I don't get to having a son). It just makes me happy.

Music... putting on classical relaxes me and makes me feel sophisticated (something that is harder to feel as a momma who is super tired and not even remotely put together anymore LOL) and putting on upbeat music or music from my childhood always improves my mood.

For some reason Paul Simon "You can call me Al" always makes me smile.

Mine are very materialistic haha, but because I never ever treat myself, if I'm feeling horrible, if I even just buy myself DD or Starbucks, or go get a blowout or nails done, it makes me feel infinitely better. I do all these things during lunch hour at work. So I guess my answer is self care!

At home, de-cluttering, re-organizing always helps me feel better.
