And in general I think it's better to be on the low end if you are craigslisting - there is always a ton of other furniture for sale and you want to stand out. Plus if people have to come pick it up themselves that should add to the discount.

Of course movers arrive and DH really wants to keep those dang couches! @catomd00: they are 7 or 8 years old. No issues with them I just don't like how they look. The couches will move with us and are going into a bonus room that no one will see, but him.

We got about $450 for and old dirty 3 seater couch and a pretty new love seat. Both had scratches from cats we fostered though. I thought it was a pretty good deal on both ends considering I paid around $1,600 for them new.

In my area I think your price is super low and someone would snatch it up right away! I live in a pretty costly area.

@yellowbird: I definitely underpriced the TV/ media cabinet. Selling it for $200. I will know for the future!

I usually do about 1/2 the value. For reference we just sold all of our furniture:

Reclining sectional sold for $850
Red couch and love seat sold for $250 for both
King bedroom set sold for $1900

@looch: Same. I would assume something weird had happened on those couches to be $100 for both.

I usually look up similar items on Craigslist and price them accordingly.

$100 for both?

I am weird with upholstered stuff, for that price I would be wondering if those were animal couches (where pets used them as beds).

It depends...how much did you buy it for and how old is it? I did some ikea furniture at about 75% of the original price because it had barely been used. I always price high and assume people will work me down. I got lucky that time and found a buyer right away that didn't try to haggle.

The chair looks like it's barely used...i probably would have priced it around 50% of original price to start. The couch is looking mroe loved and a little saggy, so I would have priced it lower...

I think furniture tends to sell for way less than half it's original value, so I don't necessarily think yours is too low.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Lately, I've been selling a lot of baby/toddler things we have outgrown. I use a local site similar to craigslist and a FB buy/sell group. If I'm not in any particular hurry to sell, I'll list items for the price I hope to get and just wait. If I want it to move, I'll relist it stating "reduced price" or OBO. It has worked well for me. Sometimes bundling items can work well too, especially for baby clothes. I also compare what similar items are selling for used and price accordingly.

@lamariniere: "moving, priced to sell" is what I ended up replying back. Hopefully, the couches are sold.

I noticed for next time when it comes to pictures that putting in a pic of the item in use makes people think other things are sold. The pics speak 1,000 words vs say the actual description detailing what is for sale. :bummed:

Is there a formula for instance when selling items without a time crunch?

I put as much info and as many photos as possible. Be sure to put approximate measurements because people always want to know if something will fit in their vehicle. I also add clear photos of any imperfections or damage. If you are selling it for a low price, I would clearly state something like "moving, priced to sell".

It's too late now for me to go back and adjust prices, but I am curious since I will have more things to sell when we move in and replace items in the future. How do you price used furniture?

I had one interested buyer ask if there was something wrong with a loveseat and chair I'm selling because the price tag was too low? A friend who's husband can put the items on his work message board even asked if the price tag was per item, so maybe it is too low? Here's a pic for reference. I'm asking $100/ obo.
