Our "formal" dining room isn't very formal. It has a bigger (6-person) table, and LO's high chair. We usually eat dinner there, but we also tend to keep our laptops on it and do work at it during the day. We finally moved our kitchen table out there and extended it with the leaves. It's nice to have a separate room to eat in since the kitchen was a tad cramped before.
