I don't really have advice but I can sympathize! My DD is 9 months & she will take a bottle but sometimes it just isn't what she wants & she will fight it until she gets the breast. If DH gets up & gives her a BM bottle @ night she will often keep crying until I comfort nurse her. I am trying to introduce sippy cups but so far it's a battle! Best of luck :)

my daughter went through phases of hating bottles. She's now at 11.5 months and takes a bottle during the day and breastfeeds from me morning and night. My only suggestion is to keep trying different combinations. My daughter would not eat all day long and then breastfeed, and then one day she just took a bottle. We tried different bottles - avent, dr browns, etc and we finally got down a great combination and we havent changed it since. Once you find something he'll take, just keep consistently trying it so he knows its not going away.

For my son it was all or nothing, if he thought he a had chance to nurse he would only drink an ounce or 2 from a bottle all day long. So when he turned 1 i totally stopped nursing even though i would of loved to at night and he started drinking 6-8oz a day from a bottle and straw cups works well too.

My friend'a baby hated bottles and she nursed him til he was 3 yo! Eeeks... i'll definitely be watching this thread for advice... I was planning on skipping bottles (just another thing to wean later anyway), and going straight to the Zoli cup, but would love to hear what has worked for others.

@Maysprout: spoons have worked, but it's not realistic for long!

He's okay with a straw cup, but again, will only take about an ounce. I am going to keep trying different cups and talk to our LC...I will update if we find anything that works.

Spoons? It's a bit tedious but it works for my LO. She likes sippy cups but i dont think she's figured them out too well yet.

tough i know! i can't leave olive with mr. bee for fear she will starve. i'm not sure it has to do with type of bottle since half the time she will take it from our nanny. she's just fighting because she wants the boob instead dammit! who can blame them!

what about a straw cup?

@Mrs. Bee: he's gotten to the point where he actually fights the bottle away from his mouth. It was a slow decline, but he's always preferred the boob and it hasn't really been a problem since I only work 3 days a week. On the days I work he kind of tanks up in the morning and at night (the lactation consultant said reverse cycling was pretty common). He does eat solid food really well during the day now.

@artbee: I am going to keep trying other cups! Not a lot of luck so far :/

i guess you just gotta force him. olive will take a bottle from our nanny. half the time she just gets pissed about it. our nanny is just really patient though.

was he taking bottles fine until recently?

My friend had her baby go straight to a sippy cup with milk. She just did it little by little.

Mrs. Bee, I know Olive is a bottle hater, and as of about a month ago, so is my LO. I'd like to quit pumping at one year and use up my freezer stash/switch to cow's milk during the day. (I'll keep nursing at night/in the am if I can.) But how the heck do I do that if he won't take more than an ounce or so from a bottle or cup?
