@PawPrints: I tend to agree with you that Amazon/Target boxes under the pretty wrapping are not so exciting! Growing up I feel like stores have gift boxes put at the holidays! I may invest in some pretty, reusable boxes (and still wrap them so I can do the whole “each kid gets a specific paper” thing).

I don't save the actual box it was shipped in unless it's something really odd shaped/hard to wrap. Somehow it just feels a little off to me to open a gift and see a mailing label.

I don't keep any spare boxes lying around though, so if it's tough to wrap and I already tossed the shipping box, I just tough it out and figure out a way to smoosh it into the wrapping.

(Also - shipping boxes are usually way larger than the actual item! So it would be rattling around in there unless you also keep the packing materials, and we'd run out of space under the tree a lot faster.)

If it's solid, I wrap as is. Otherwise I use a box.

I am super lazy. Sometimes I just put the gift in a bag with tissue paper on top :silly: But I agree with others that it really depends! I'd love to just wrap as is whenever possible! Again, I'm lazy!

Also a bit of both. For the really big stuff, like the year my son got a ride on car, it was unboxed and assembled. I wanted him to be able to enjoy it right away, rather than assembling and waiting for it to charge, etc.

This year, I have a bit of an issue because I ordered a ton of Santa presents on amazon and they've come loose, and I need to find a non amazon box to put them in to wrap them from Santa...never a dull moment, lol.

@kiddosc: My Mom once wrapped a gift card in a big box with a can of soup in it and I spent a month trying to figure out what it was - I called it the rolly-thunky present because of the noises it made when I tipped it different ways. She has also wrapped food that she needs and has had to unwrap and retrieve, though!

For me it’s a mix. Usually I wrap as-is, but for things like sweaters I usually put them in a box.

Totally depends on the package! If it’s for anyone besides my own kids I always leave in the store packaging in case they want to return it. If it’s a weird shape I’ll often just use a gift bag (I save them so we have a billion). I actually like the look of all different sizes and shapes of wrapped packages!

A little bit of both. If the store packaging is firm and somewhat regularly shaped, then just wrap as is. Otherwise it goes in a box, but I don't unpackage first. My husband likes to use big boxes and put things like soup cans in it along with the present to throw off any guesses.

How do you wrap your holiday gifts? Do you wrap items in their store packaging? Put them in a box first, then wrap? And if you’re boxing, do you remove store packaging on things like toys?

Last year life was chaotic (we moved a week before Christmas and had a new baby), so I just wrapped however I could. This year I’m saving packing boxes because I kind of like the uniform look of everything being box-shaped, haha.

Just curious! :)
