@allison: I hope they work too! In some ways you're probably better off being so far from temptation :) We try to get out once a day, and I'm slowly trying to make those outings to the library or the park instead of to a cute baby clothes store, ha!

@scg00387: ooh, those are cute, but they'd be way too long for my LO. I haven't even looked at Gap lately because their prices are usually higher than ON. I'm about to look now, though! And I just ordered 4 of those shorts in 2 sizes from ON. I hope they work!

@scg00387: Haha. I love ordering from Old Navy these days. I end up sending most everything back, but I get the satisfaction of shopping! I live an hour away from the nearest shopping, so I can't just run to the store. And when we do go to "town", DH HATES shopping and is always rushing me out.

@scg00387: they have an adjustable waistband, too! I think I'm going to order. What colors do you think I could get away with? I like the blue, but they don't have his size. Green, maybe?

Those look unisex, but they would be too short on my son. And you know what, i have a thing with guys in shorts that are too short. I kind of think you're better with length.

ETA: I guess my only concern is the cuff. Are cuffs a girl-only thing?

@allison: My mom always makes fun of LO's "manpris" because we have the same problem. I've found that girl's shorts actually fit better because they're about an inch shorter (at least at Target) if you remove the bows or embellishments. We've stuck with knit since he became mobile though... I felt so guilty one day when I was wondering why he wasn't sitting up... turns out the woven shorts and the fluffy diaper made it impossible!

@looch: I tried the poplin ones, actually! They didn't fit :(. Too tight. I guess I could go up a size and hem those, maybe. I'm already buying 6-12 month stuff, though. It makes me so sad to buy even bigger than that for a 5 month old!

@allison: if the jersey ones work for you, they also have some poplin ones, they're what i send my son to day care in pretty much everyday. They wash perfectly.

@tysonja: yeah, I've thought about that. But all the ones I have/ have tried have pockets or are overalls that snap at the crotch. I'm sure I'll be doing this come fall/winter, though.

@looch: I haven't tried those. I was hoping for a couple pairs of "nicer" shorts to wear out. He just wears onesies and t-shirts around the house. But if I don't find what I'm looking for, I'm probably going to just go with some more casual stretchy ones. I'll check the ON jersey ones out then. Thanks!

perhaps you or someone you know could do some simple hemming on a pair of shorts that fit in the bum/waist? :)

or you could just take a pair of scissors to them and go for the cut-off style :)

@allison: their waist does tend to run big. they have adjustable elastic/buttons on the inside which i have to pull to almost the smallest size for both kids. so it's worth a try since it's free shipping, and they're having a sale right now!

zara tends to have a slimmer fit since it's european, and i find their bottoms run long. charlie wears their size 2-3 in bottoms, and olive wears 9-12 months and she's 20 months now and on the taller side. not sure about baby sizes though.

i find children's place to be looser -- maybe try them?

I can't seem to find shorts for summer for my hefty 5 month old. He weighs >18 lbs, but, while long, his length is all in his torso. He also wears cloth diapers. So he's got a big waist, thighs, and butt, but short (average for his age?) legs. All the shorts I've tried are either too tight or too long.

I want to try Zara since shipping and return shipping is free (right?). But I thought I'd ask here first if you think their stuff is cut well for my babe? Basically, I need a cut that's short and wide ;)

If you have other brands you think would work well, please let me know!
