I use email or regular office phone. I always try to make the call the night before or very early in the morning (before 5am). We also use texts for important messages like delayed starts, etc. But every single person in our office has an iPhone and we're all pretty young, so I think its more acceptable. Email is much more efficient at my office- we all check email on our phones constantly, so if I email at 6 AM sometimes I'll get a "feel better!" reply within minutes! DH has a really casual relationship with his supervisor, so they'll just text each other if their schedule changes. If I called, she actually wouldn't get the message until she got into work at 9:30ish whereas she will see my email right away. I feel like that is completely innapropriate. If you are late or going to be sick, you call. If you can't get a hold of me, you leave a message. It's not difficult. Those are my rules.
