Everything is child proofed in his room. He doesn't get out of bed for MOTN wakeups, but he does get up and play when he's done sleeping in the morning. That part is totally awesome. The independence and ability to choose to sleep or play is part of the whole point of the floor bed.

Everything in my daughter's room is totally safe for her. I nurse her to sleep, so when I leave she's asleep. When she wakes in the night, she'll often walk towards the door and cry for us.

@locavore_mama: LOs is just a crib mattress on the floor. She has a dresser, bookcase, glider in her room. Everything is bolted to the walks and all the cords are hidden so she can't get into anything problematic.

Right now I sit on the floor at the head of her bed and rub her back til she falls asleep. DH will sometimes lie down next to her but I try really hard to avoid that.

I think she rolled off a couple times when she started rolling and then learned where the bed stops, just like the rest of us.

@locavore_mama: We did this with DD.. and we didn't stop falling asleep next to her until she was 4.. :-/ Also she hardly ever rolled off the mattress...

@Arden: @MamaCate: what's in their room then?

LO is going through 18m regression pretty bad where she does not want me to leave her. I figure a floor bed might be a good option to fall asleep with her but then be able to leave without moving her.

Are they on the floor with their crib mattress?

LO sleeps pretty still in her crib but in our bed she is All over the place. So I foresee her rolling off a crib mattress!

Yes we child proofed the whole room. With motn wake ups she usually stays put. In the morning she wakes up and crawls to the door and bangs on it to let us know she is awake.

She has been in the bed since about 4 months old, now almost 2 years! Let me know if you have other questions .

@locavore_mama: Nothing prevents Charlie from leaving the floor bed... but he mostly doesn't!

If he wakes up in the middle of the night, he just calls out for me just like when he was in a crib!!

Usually the whole room is carefully childproofed so that they can't hurt themselves.

How do you prevent LO from climbing out and playing instead of sleeping? And potentially hurting themselves?
Do they get out of bed during motn Wakeup?
