@mrsjazz: yeah I wouldn't have given anything if we didn't get it free from a friend. He has to sit on big potties anyway one day.

@brownie: We have a potty seat and a potty at home. It would be nice if I didn't have to buy something else. I'm going to talk to our nanny and see what she prefers...she has been through this before.

We started potty training with our babysitter and she had a potty seat that they used at her house that we provided (hand me down from a friend). At home he had a seat. They just went potty when they felt like it. We did snap cloth diapers so we moved to cloth pullups. They were really nice. Then when he was going on command (every hour) we switched to underwear.

When he started daycare, they took him every hour and we had many days with no accidents. They do put him in pullups for nap time (only one teacher is there during nap time so they can't always run him immediately to the potty in the other room).

I would also ask your nanny. Our nanny has a fully PT'ed 2 yo and has strong opinions about PTing. Since she has done it before - obviously successfuly! - I am happy to do what she tells me. :happy:

@Mamaof2: ok good idea.

Any recommendations on potty chairs. We have the babybjorn potty at home, but for the nanny share we will need something small that can be put out of the way. Do they make collapsible or folding potty chairs? I am such a novice when it comes to this.

@mrsjazz: I would just stick with diapers - they are cheaper! In my DD's classroom they go in the bathroom and DD pulls down her pants and removes her own diaper - then sits on the potty.

I'm assuming I would have to switch to pull-ups to make it easier for our nanny.

In our toddler room they have the kids sit on the potty every 2 hours - obviously if they ask to go between those times then they do that too!

I would provide a small potty to make it easier.

@Mrsbells: So in our toddler room they have toddler toilets. And if your child is ready you can let the teachers know and they will work with them. LO already has 3 classmates that are using the potty!
You should ask your daycare teacher!

@mrsjazz: Good post. LO does go on the potty seat at home but its tough when she goes to daycare.

@mrsjazz: I would buy one to leave at the nanny and just ask her to ask LO if she wants to use it. Obviously keeping in tune with your philosophy.

I am trying to figure out logistics. LO has taken some interest in the toilet and we want to start potty training. We're just going to start at home with morning and evenings and on the weekend but I'm wondering how potty training will work with childcare.

We have a nanny share. The other baby is 3 months older than LO, I'm not sure when the parents are going to start potty training but I'm going to ask. Would we get two potties, leave one there for LO, and ask our nanny to ask LO if she has to go potty during the day?

Any advice on this would be appreciated.
