He always done great at them, up until about 6 months ago. I don't know what happened, but he now gets overwhelmed quickly and can't seem to calm down. He has fun, but everything sets him off. He gets super sensitive and will cry at the drop of a hat. It's frustrating. He's 3.5.

My 2.5 year old went nuts at my moms house (small gathering of just us, grandma, my sister and my teenage nephew). He loves the attention from grandma auntie and cousin. He ate really well too which shocked me. Then he ran around like a crazy person, cried when we had to leave and napped until almost 7 pm!
The baby is super shy and took at least an hour to warm up to everyone/not being at home.

My kids take about 30min-1hr to "warm up" to people but after some food and play time, they're fine. They did well last night-- no attitude/tantrums, ate dinner well, didn't go crazy after dessert. They weren't as friendly in their goodbyes to some of our elders but that's understandable as they're all essentially strangers to them, so whatever!

DS is 9 months old and he wouldn't nap ANYWHERE. We went to two different places (wouldn't do that again) and he was too scared to sleep in his pack and play in their houses. He had a fever on top of it. He napped for one single hour between 830am and 830pm...unfortunately it wasn't a good day :bummed: Our Christmas events are planned so that there is only one each day (24-26) so that should work out better. I was in tears by the time he was in bed for the night lol

LO is 2 and she did better than she has in the past and all things considered she did really, really well. It was fun and a lot less stressful than being there with an infant.

DS was between 3-4 months old and at the height of his reflux and colic but surprisingly did well! He behaved just fine during Thanksgiving despite being held by a zillion relatives and handled the long drives to and from my family's house well (granted we drove at night). He also handled his first flights and visit to DH's family well even with a 3 hour time delay (granted it was 3 hours ahead so way more manageable). We just tried to stick to his schedule - that was the hard part for our relatives - but as long as we did and DS was well rested, we had minimal meltdowns. We also traveled with EVERYTHING - like his Marpac Dohm, monitor, made sure both families had a memory foam mattress for his PNP, etc.

This year he is 15 months and WAY harder to wrangle for travel (we did Hawaii at 13 months and it was harrrrrrd). We skipped Thanksgiving completely and will do a short flight for Xmas over driving.

Next year I'm scared. We will have a 26 month old and a 6 month old and will have to travel for both holidays. :bummed:

It wasn't a very big gathering- 5 adults and the 2 year old- but she did well. Just need to work on not sticking her whole hand in the dip when she dips a chip...

Yesterday was the first of several holiday gatherings that we will attend this year. The girls were a little shy at first, but then played well, but then got grumpy again towards the end, there was a lot of stimulation. I can't complain too much overall, just hoping the next events go as well or even better.
