I'd say if he likes the straw cup and that is what he will drink out of then go for it. Better than fighting to take a bottle.

@Pepper: that's the thing...he's been on level 3 nipples for a few.
Months? I didn't think you can go faster than that, unless you do a y-cut!

This has been happening to us, too. He's super distracted. If I walk around and feed him, he'll drink most of it. Sometimes I'll stop feeding him, change his diaper or play with him, and then I'll try again and sometimes he'll finish it.

I also bought him level 3 nipples, and that helped a lot. He can finish the bottle faster with them. Sometimes I think he just gets bored.

M was doing this for a while and she did much better with a faster-flow nipple. Maybe he likes the straw because there's so much less resistance.

ETA: if he'll use the straw cup and it works for you I'd go for it and not have to worry about ditching the bottles in the future!

My LO has been STTN since like 3 months - I aint messing with that! lol

Tonight, he took his last bottle without a fight, because he was really tired. But every other bottle today was a battle.
@Rahlyrah, he likes to play with the nipple too.

@lulibee: @rahlyrah: I just stopped fighting. If he doesn't want it, he doesn't want it. He will eat when he is hungry. When he is refusing I just offer more often, and eventually he will eat. I have also tried sitting him in his high chair and feeding him there. For some reason that works some of the time. I also sometimes put him to bed without it and then get him out of bed an hour later to do a very early "dream feed".

@lulibee: I was about to post a similar question! Lately, LO has been fighting me tooth and nail for some (not all) of his bottles. I have the most problems when trying to feed him his bedtime bottle. He cries, plays with the nipple, pulls it in and out his mouth quickly, arches his back, pushes it away, etc. Tonight, it took me 25 minutes just to get him to eat 3 ounces. He ended up falling asleep before he even finished.

Our pedi told us we need to cut out MOTN feedings but I am hesistant to do so if he isn't eating much before bed.

@Mrs. Lion: Haha...I have to shut tv and everything off because he' so distracted!

@Mamasig: I know it is better this way in the long haul, but I really hope this is the solution. I bought a sippy cup with a straw today and will try it out tomorrow and see how he does

If he prefers a straw, go for it. That's one less transition later.

This happened to us too...he was too busy and distracted to want to eat. We had a lot more night time wakings during that time, and then about a month later it passed. Get it in however you can (my little guy doesn't do well with a sippy yet). Quiet rooms and/or distracting him with the TV (gasp) helped too.

@lulibee: 2-10.5 I EBF until we introduced solids at 6+ months! Then he went to a regular cup and straw at 10.5 months.

At 2 months my DS and DD went on bottle strike.
At 10.5 months DS went on boob strike. He happily drinks bm, cow's milk, water and juice from a straw!

My LO has been fighting tooth and nail on every bottle feed. He's a bit over 7 months, and was taking in 5 - 6/7oz bottles a day (every 3 hrs). In the last few weeks, he stops drinking after an ounce or two and turns away. I try to get him back and he fights me. I usually can get him to drink about 5 oz with a lot of effort.

So today, I dropped a bottle, thinking maybe he was ready to drop a feeding, and tried every 4 hours. He still didn't want to eat without a fight! So I stuck a straw in his bottle and he happily drank it!

Do you think he may not want a bottle anymore, and we should just give him all his milk in a sippy cup with a straw? I've been using a sippy cup here and there with just water (but with a spout). I feel like it's too early for this, and that there must be another reason he's not drinking...but I can't figure out what it could be.
