@Beyond2: I need to learn your skills! That's awesome!

We usually purchase a week at a time. Less in the summer while our garden is in full swing. This is something I'd like to improve upon!

I grocery shop once a month and meal plan monthly. It was an experiment at first and we've grown to LOVE it. We have 2 refrigerators and a 20 cubic foot chest freezer (I'd love to get another chest freezer as well once we start raising pigs...). All of our meat is either homegrown or purchased in bulk so I always have nearly every cut of meat in the house. We start the month with a lot of "fresh" meals- Tacos, salads, BLTs. As the month goes on we move more into "storage" meals- Chili, Soup, Mashed potatoes and Roasts. We eat fresh fruit in the beginning of the month and canned/frozen towards the end. In the summer we have a huge garden and I barely grocery shop. In the winter I buy a little more from the store, but we rely heavily on our canned foods and freezer. Also I purchase all my staples in bulk from a restaurant supply store- flour, bread flour (I make all of our bread products at home), sugar, spices, etc. We store all of this in 5 gallon food safe pails to keep it safe from bugs!

We go to the grocery store once a week and try to keep a stocked pantry. I loosely meal plan based on what I have and rarely go out to buy ingredients.

We keep the fridge and pantry stocked, and buy weekly per our meal plan. Meat, though, is always bought fresh from the market up the street on the day we plan to cook it.

I usually do grocery shopping once a week and plan to cook the perishable stuff first.

I used to be at the grocery store every other day, but that was when I was staying at home and could walk there.

Usually the day of. Fresh produce doesn't last that long, and most of our meals need fresh produce so we hit the market a few times a week. No big!

We shop once/week and we menu plan before we go. I always plan to make the stuff that has ingredients that need to be used more quickly at the start of the week.

@Bao: I hear that! We're doing 10 days this time, because we will be out of town for about 6 days, and we want to use all of our leftovers. But Mother Hubbard's cupboard is pretty bare!

We try to do it once a week, but I think we might actually do better with a few smaller trips during the week. Sometimes, we are very overambitious with our meal plan, and we don't end up using everything we buy!

We only do two big shopping trips a month, so I try and get everything we need then. Of course we end up having to go a time or two in between to pick up things like milk, cheese or produce. We freeze a lot of things so they don't go bad in the first week.

I am horrible at meal planning. I usually buy the ingredients for my meals on the morning that I cook a meal... I'm gonna have to get better at planning ahead of time. Thank goodness that Bee often stocks the refrigerator with enough food that I can scavenge most of the ingredients from the fridge!
