We started looking around 5 months and we locked down our choice when I was 23 weeks -- they already had a wait list of three people and while they had 4 spots opening between now and next April, I didn't want to chance sitting on it. In our area there are very long waiting lists and some of the daycares we looked at were already filled when we looked. Some people put there name on the list the minute they find out they are pregnant to confirm they can get their LO in their daycare of choice. With our next LO I'm going to make sure to get them on the list right away because we LOVE our daycare. One of my girlfriends here said she didn't start looking until month 7 and every place had plenty of room, so I'm honestly not very concerned with it. I'm lucky I did because they closed the list shortly after. Daycare is crazy here despite the generous mat leave. I got on the list in march of 2012 for a January 2014 spot. I would definitely recommend looking sooner rather than later. Is it way too early to start doing tours and visits or should I get started? I find this whole thing really, really stressful, and think I would feel better if I had a sense for where the baby was going to go, but I'm a little worried that I'm getting way ahead of myself.
