SO likes to remind me that's not possible :) When talking to women they always understand my reticence, but I know SO doesn't quite get what it means to me to change my status in the workplace, even assuming they will be excited and supportive. I worry about my place there, and perception of me and my abilities, and my career in general. I think a lot of men don't fully grasp this because the birth of a child affects their careers in different ways. I had planned to tell everyone around the 14th week. However when I told DH, he was at work and told everyone that was there. He was super excited. It spread like wild fire through his store and into mine. So our places of work found out around 6wks. WAY to early, but lucky us things worked out. I just started this job in August. If I get KU quickly I could e breaking news after just about 6-7 months working here eek! But way I figure is life's timing is more important that a blip on years of service I may have with employer. The first time I was pregnant he went to a lot of my apts with me and then I had some issues and ended up miscarrying. So then of course the second time he wanted to make sure he was there for everything just in case anything happened again, so he told him. I had early bleeding and called in sick for one dr appt then was late for another dr appt a week later, and then they wanted to see me again a week later, so I figured, I'd better tell her or she's going to figure it out. She was great. 2 coworkers then guessed over the next few weeks and I told another one bc we were going to an event together and my pants were so tight and my boobs were exploding everywhere and I was just over it. Then I announced it to the rest of work (well, my boss did with my permission) at 12 weeks. I wouldn't have been able to hide it much longer, I don't know how ppl go 20 weeks without announcing, I already had a sizable bump at 14 weeks. Glad yours went well! I wrote back and said no it can wait till you get back and to not worry, I wasn't quitting! He wrote back thanks for letting him know cause he was afraid that was it. So it must be a boss think that is right where they go. I don't think you should feel bad at all that you haven't been there long. It happens all the time. Be glad that she reacted well!!! Just updating because I'm feeling irrationally guilty right now and need a swift kick in the head! I emailed my boss tonight and asked her for a meeting on Thursday when she's in town, and she wrote back in 30 seconds asking 'what is this in regards to?'. I tried to dance around it and she kept wanting to know if something is wrong so I finally said okay just call me and I just told her over the phone. Ugh. She was great and reacted well ("Congrats!! That's so awesome!!!) but I still feel so funny about this having only worked there for 9.5 months. :-/ Is this super bad form?
