However, this hospital doesn't have a peds unit. There is a closer hospital that's about 15 minutes away, but it's in the next state and not as great. The children's hospital is 25-30 minutes away, and that's where we bring the kids if they need to go to the ER. </p> <p>Being near a hospital is very important to our family. I always map out the nearest hospital every time we travel. My kids have life threatening food allergies, and I can't take my chances. LO1 had anaphylaxis while on vacation. Hospital? It depends on which one! There is one which isn't amazing about 20 minutes. There is a trauma center and another really good hospital about 25 minutes away (across the street from each other). So helpful in the early days, or like this past month when we were there almost every week. We luckily haven't needed the hospital and there are a lot around. Depending on traffic they would be between five and 45 minutes away I guess. The nearest one is one of only go to for trauma or something- it's not a nice one. I am literally surrounded by 3 hospitals. But OB and hospital where you can deliver a baby are just under an hour away. You get sent to that hospital for anything major. One time, my son got a bad cut on his leg that I thought might need stitches... so I put him in the stroller, elevated it so that his leg was a bit higher and ran all the way there with him in the stroller!!</p> <p>Now we live overseas and don't have a pediatrician - we plan to visit the US later this year for a wellness visit. And the nearest hospital is an hour away! I worry a lot about the hospital being so far away, but there's a clinic close by that could at least help a little bit. </p>
