@Meridian: I'm always tempted, too! but there'll be tons of cute next year too :) then you'll be able to buy it because you won't already have a wardrobe in the closet from the previous year's sales! hehe.

I didn't really buy ahead when DD was an infant because her growth was aaaall over the place.

Now that she's older, I just bought a ton of 3T from Old Navy/Baby Gap for now and next fall because I know it'll fit!

Ok, I'm glad to hear that I'm right to be hesitant about buying too far ahead!! I thought it was the "thing to do", but apparently not, so yay! Although I see cute clothes on sale, and am tempted!

Ditto to many of the above. I don't buy above any more because I got burned so many times before 18 months. And ultimately, the savings weren't worth it when the clothes couldn't be worn! :bummed:

I got burned, so I very rarely buy ahead. There are usually good enough deals plus coupons, that I can get just as good of deal when I know what size she will be.

I will do t-shirts and leggings since those can be pretty much year around, but honestly those are on sale almost all the time so it's not really a "big savings"

I don't buy ahead. She outgrew her pretty summer wardrobe by march.
I'll pick up tee shirts and jeans, things that are more season-less.

I buy ahead and just guessed that she would stay at a similar percentile. I don't take the tags off until she's ready to wear the item, so the resale value is a little better if I want to sell later. There have only been two or three items that she couldn't wear and those just went in the buckets of clothes that get passed around our friends.

I try to only buy things she will use regardless of season, we live in a place where she will likely need some long sleeves and pants even in August though so it's easier. Thankfully, for this coming summer she will undoubtedly be in 6-12 months so I just stick with brands with that sizing. Sometimes I just guess when there is a great sale on something like a cute Christmas shirt. I figure worst case scenario I can sell it when the time comes closer.

We don't live in a very seasonal climate so it isn't hard to buy ahead. I buy most of LOs clothes well before they will fit her.

When my son was younger than 2, it was easier. Now, I have no idea what size my 4 year old is going to be in a year, so I don't buy ahead any more. There are always sales.

I buy them as soon as they need them, no sooner. Like if it's 80 degrees outside and I realize "oh man, you don't own any shorts that fit you." Time to head to target!

i didn't buy ahead when they were that little. hard to tell what size they will be. now that they're older, their sizes are much more predictable and i shop end of season sales especially for pricier things like coats.

I do now that she seems to be on the same growing trend now for like a year.

When she was little I would only buy basics like jeans, leggings, etc that would go in any season.

I don't buy ahead because I'm not sure of size. You never know how fast your kids will grow. DS2 was born at 7 pounds and is now 26 pounds at 9 months. He's fitting in 18-24 months! I just wait!

I just buy separates that she can still wear in the next season. When she was younger, she was quite large but now at 16 months she has dropped well down in percentiles (currently wearing 12-18 month shirts and 9-12 month pants). I have no idea how big she will be next year.

I'm not buying for next fall/winter because I just have no idea what size he will be in. I am so tempted though! I am afraid he won't fit whatever size I choose and then I won't really be saving money. But I know others are able to plan ahead so maybe they will have tips!

I still have a week and a half to go, but I have been sticking to year round basics when there is a good deal on items like sweatpants, light cardigans and onesies (if it's an item I really like I will get it in every size up to 24 mo). I will worry about really seasonal items like winter boots and a swimsuit when I actually need it.

Winter clothes are all on sale now, but I have no idea how to buy for next winter! LO is only 17 weeks, and below the 2nd percentile (yes, 2nd! He was a preemie). So I have no idea how big he'll actually be next winter. I have bought a few things for this summer/fall, but I also don't know how big he'll be, and don't want to waste money on things he won't end up wearing. Oh the dilemma!

What does everyone else do?
