At two weeks I definitely could have done that, assuming it wasn't a there-and-back kind of trip.

We are planning a 4 hr drive when LO is 8 days old... I'll let you know how it goes, but from everything i've heard (doula, midwife, etc), we're not crazy. It just may take a while.

@grizz: Our baby is adopted and was born 18 hours away from where we live, driving time. So he spent a LOT of time in the car on the way home. We've also done a drive to see my parents which was 4 hours each way. Try to plan it so that your baby eats just before you get in the car, and know that you'll have to make at least one stop per 3 hour stretch. Give yourselves extra time so you don't get stressed.

At that age I was in no shape to breastfeed in public. I needed the boppy, my water bottle, the glider, and about 40 minutes. LO was nursing about every 1.5 hours. That three hour drive would have taken 4-5 counting in nursing stops. I had a csection but wouldn't worry about that part, my friends with vaginal births couldn't sit at that point though.
I'd save the shoot until you have a bit more of a rhythm. Cake smashes are adorable.

We did 3-ish hours when DS was 2 weeks, and it wasn't a big deal at all! I also had a very easy recovery, so I wasn't in any pain, at that point.

I don't think a 3 hour trip is that big of a deals for that age! I think you would be fine! We traveled 8-10 hours when DS was just under 6 mo and I think he would have done better a little younger :). Just remember to allow extra time and stop often...or if you are lucky baby will sleep the whole time!

I'm thinking it might actually be tougher for you than for baby! If you have a vaginal birth then you might be alright but after my C-sec I don't think I could have sat in a car for 3 hours. It was also just stressful thinking about leaving the house to go to our pedi who is 10 min away. I vote for doing newborn photos locally and using your gifted session later on!

Funny that I posted a thread about newborn photos the other day when we were waffling back and forth due to cost.... I won a newborn photo session in a drawing, and I was also gifted a newborn session today!

The one I was gifted with is from our wedding photographer and she is my all time favorite photog. The only glitch - her studio is three hours away. Is it possible that we'd feel like making the trip with baby when he's two weeks old, or should I ask her if we could hold off til he's 3-6 months or so? I hate to ask since it was a gift, but I just don't know that we'll feel up to the trip.
