We were in size 4s for a long time, but then it's like she competley skipped size 5 and went straight to a 6. There should be plenty of room for her to grow in size 6, hopefully through most of winter. (Fingers crossed!)

LO was in 3's for 3 months, 4's for 3 months, and 5's for....3 weeks. Blah! Luckily I haven't bought her fall shoes yet, and as a result, I plan on waiting to buy her boots.

For boots, I always buy a size or 2 up. I hope to get at least 2 seasons of wear out of them. Crocs rain boots, for instance, I prefer to buy 2 sizes up. Her autumn/spring boots I bought in Feb and they still fit (I think it was 1.5 sizes up). Her new winter boots (still in box) should barely be a size up when she wears them.

For summer shoes (sneakers & sandals), I buy in her current size. Or I should say I bring out in her current size because I normally buy ahead when it's on super sale.

For our LO, it's about every six months. His last sizing was in early March, so he's ready for new shoes. He was complaining about a pair being too tight. The lady at Stride Rite said that's an indication to come in for new shoes. He's in his other pair until we can get him sized again.

@Smurfette: Thanks! I'll have to go find that thread.

@hilsy85: Thanks for the tips! That's a good point about sizing up in boots and them not being able to walk well. Maybe I'll just wait it out for now. There's no snow yet, so I can get away with him just wearing the size 5 sneakers and I may have to just figure out the boots later.

@Adira: Personally, I don't buy ahead for shoes because it is so unpredictable! Some kids go through two sizes in a few months, others stay in a size for 6 months. So it's hard to tell what size he will be wearing in February. We will buy new shoes in Sept that I will plan on him wearing until December--if they still fit in Jan, great, but I am probably going to have to buy new shoes in Dec/Jan. You also want to be careful about sizing up in shoes (especially thick boots) because they don't walk as well!

There was a thread about this a couple weeks ago, if you want more reference

R is usually 2-3 months. I hope she stays in her 5's for awhile cause I already bought her some boots on sale and she won't need them for 1.5 months yet.

@hilsy85: Only 3 months? So if Xander's ready for size 5s now, should I get size 6 for the winter?

Or maybe it's better to size up anyway for winter boots and have him wear warm thick socks anyway?

Xander's been in size 4s since he started walking, but now at 18 months, he's definitely ready to move to size 5s. Is it safe to assume that he'll stay in size 5s all winter? I'm trying to figure out what size boots to get him.
