We purposely didn't tiptoe around LO's sleep because a friend advised us that she would come to NEED darkness and silence to sleep. For us, the blackout curtains were not a necessity even though we have them. They are really good quality. In my opinion, its better to spend the $80 now, rather than replace them in a few months when you realize you need blackout curtains. Since we put them to bed by 7, the blinds and the non blackout curtains we tried just kept the room too bright. So in short, for winter, no big deal. For summer, they are essential for us. P has always been a light sleeper (if you even thought about going into the room she'd wake up), but they still didn't make our "necessary" list.</p> <p>ETA: I think your views on baby sleep/training would play a part too. Since we don't sleep train, expect P to sttn, then having an environment that would inhibit/contraindicate training isn't that big of a deal. They have two kinds I like - one is sheer, and one is blackout. The blackout are $20 more per panel which means we'd save $80 total. The store credit for the bumper won't cover the full cost so I'd like to save money, but are blackout curtains really important? The windows have blinds. </p>
