Well, if the seat becomes too heavy, you can always leave it in the car, attached to the base. I know that kind of negates the point of the bucket, but it's a good way to get the longest use out of it.

For me, the bucket seat became too heavy to maneuver when my son was 6 months old. I couldn't engage the mechanism to remove him without waking him up.

I think if you like the convenience of the infant carseat you can make the weight work. I loved using an infant carseat for the toddler I nanny for...even though it was heavy at the end I still preferred it to using a convertible, especially when they are under a year!

Sometimes it might suck to carry from the car, but if you will just be snapping it into your stroller most of the time, I don't think the weight will be that big of a deal.

@Beehive: @raintreebee: That just happens to be the only infant seat that fits in DH's car...don't tempt me!

Do you feel like it's sturdy? We tried one out and the sides felt rough.

@spaniellove: I personally did not feel that the MC was sturdy. I ordered it and returned it for the B-Safe with my son.

Which seat are you looking at? The Peg Perego are the best! :) But they are heavy right now. BUT: They are coming out with their new design and it is 2 pounds lighter (in late April). When I get pregnant with #2, that's what we'll get get.

We've just now started leaving the seat in the car-carrying it was torture, especially as the baby got bigger. He's 8.5 months, the seat is the B-Agile from Britax.

ETA: I couldn't imagine having a smaller carseat, though-as it is, he's pretty much outgrown this one.

We also love our aton! Super light and doesn't take up much room in the backseat.

@spaniellove: Have you looked into the Cybex Aton? Also extremely light, and has a better height limit. We had both and I greatly preferred the Cybex.

We have a Maxi Cosi, my LO will be 7 months in a week, and she's 16lbs (42%). We're about to transition to the convertible and she still has plenty of room to grow in the infant...it's just a pain to lug around! It's crazy how much of a difference a few pounds makes.

It is hard to say til your LO is in it. If you have a smaller LO it will likely not be a big deal. If you have a high percentile LO, you will likely upgrade sooner (but the weight of the seat won't be a huge factor in that case anyway). Think of those extra pounds as building those mommy muscles (which you will need anyway once you are lifting a toddler)

My only hesitation with the 8 lb seat (the Maxi-Cosi Mico AP) is that it has a shorter height limit (29" vs 32") so I think we'd have to switch to a convertible earlier anyway. Do you think it would still be worth it?

We have a b safe too and I thought it was heavy. But I don't know if a few pounds lighter would have made a huge difference. We switched at 7 months since LO was tall and starting to be smushed.

We have a B Safe infant seat and it's 9.8 pounds. Carrying the baby and the seat was no problem until R started getting heavier. We switched her to a convertible at 6 months old partially because she's so long and partially because I was having back trouble carrying the infant seat with her in it.

The car seat we have is...heavy, 11 lbs. I'm wondering how much I'm going to regret not getting the 8 lb car seat once LO is here. Do you just get used to carrying these things or would I always notice the difference?
