We had our LO's closet custom designed at the Container Store. All the pieces are adjustable so we can change it as she grows and as her needs change. I don't have a picture after putting everything in it, but basically dresses and coats are hung, everything else is sorted into the baskets or drawers. Extra boxes of diapers are stored on the very top shelf.

Agree that you will change your system again and again. Here's our system at 4 months old, but I think something has to change to make room for the fall, since sweaters and pants take up more room.

For the diaper station, ours is in our bathroom area beside the jacuzzi tub. Top shelf has the cloth diapers, pre-stuffed, with extra liners/doublers too. I have one pile of BG 4.0 (the favourites and definitely for night-time) and one pile of 'other'. Then there is a basket of all the baby bath/lotion stuff that we never use. On the bottom at the back there are four million receiving blankets that we never use, and up-front is the other baby towel, and the crib sheets. Hanging on the wall is the favourite wet bag, which we put the diapers in, and the other wet bag we just use for all other baby laundry (but I put my nursing bras in there too so they get washed often enough). We are lucky to have the tub-surround right there to make an extra shelf, so we have the box with wipes (wipe solution I keep laying down on the change pad) and a cloth-box with all the baby bath stuff, D drops, nail clippers, etc that we actually use all the time.

For the drawers (we don't have closet space for baby), top drawer has socks, bibs (which I rarely use, just 'cause I don't like bibs), hats (though the other half of the hats are at the front door), and 'other'. And at the back of that top drawer I have been storing things that won't fit him til next season or next year.....but I might need to clear those out soon and replace them with all the sweaters and hoodies. Middle drawer has the onesies folded and put in sideways so I can find any one I want, but I tend to try to use the ones on the left and put the just-cleaned ones on the right so that I rotate through the onesies. This was key for me. Currently the pants are in a bit of a mess on the far-left. Bottom drawer has pajamas in the front and sleep sacks in the back. I use the same in-out system for the pajamas too so that we rotate through those.

I'll have to edit to add my photos.

Goodness, some LO's have a lot more stuff and require more organization than we do!

We have a very basic set up, we have an armoire from IKEA that has a hanging rod on one side and shelves in another. It's worked out very well because we don't use a dresser for any of his clothes and we can have the best of both worlds.

I don't like to have clothes that are not the current size in the mix, so I use organizers from IKEA to compartmentalize socks, onesies, pants, shirts, etc. I have two and they are in the bottom shelves of the closet rod section of the armoire. Then I have a hanging organizer hanging from the rod and I store other shirts, jeans, sweaters and blankets there. I hang very, very little, mostly jackets, dress shirts and sweatshirts with zippers.

The shelves on the other side contain sheets, art supplies and sleepsacks, winter pajamas and other winter gear I need for the stroller.

All diapering supplies are in the diapering station in the bathroom. I recently had to remove the hanging pockets above the changing station as they became a game of tossing everything onto the floor.

As others wrote, I've changed the system as he's gotten older and we had different needs.

I got some pictures!

Right now her top drawers are socks/tights/etc and the last of the 3-6 stuff I haven't packed away yet. The middle 4 are her 6-9 stuff and the bottom 2 are 9-12.

[attach=1353/12/m9vela.576x384.IMG_1983.jpg]

We keep her headbands and things in the bottom basket on her bookshelf.

[attach=1353/12/m9velc.576x384.IMG_1984.jpg]

Her bows are stored hanging.

[attach=1353/12/m9veld.384x576.IMG_1985.jpg]

This is how we store her shoes. Like I said in my previous post, its a "jewelry organizer". The shelves had the aforementioned items, bibs, burp clothes, sheets, towels, etc.

[attach=1353/12/m9velg.384x576.IMG_1990.jpg]

Her closet is by size. The stuff on the floor is all her 12-18 and 18-24/2T stuff that I need to get drawers for. I store misc stuff on the shelf. Sleep sacks, her swim seat, extra wipes, shoes that don't fit in her organizer.

we have all his clothes hung up im weird, i just like them all hung so ican see what we have for him to wear without digging through drawers. his closet is right next to his changing table though, makes for easy access.. for his changing table we have chaning pad/wipes on top then second shelf we have diapers in a big basket then little baskets of diaper rash cream and lotions/meds.. then baskets for his socks and hats. then third shelf we have swaddlers basket, receving blanket basket and shoes basket. it works great for us!

Closet: All of his clothes that we want him to wear. Outfits and T-shirts mostly. For a long time we didn't have a dresser for him. We also had 3 of the closet organizers for socks/shoes/other misc, receiving blankets, sheets, etc. and shorts/pants. It is also storage for the stuff he is growing out of (toys etc. we want to keep for the next).

Dresser: Now holds socks/shoes/etc, shorts and pants.

We put his diapers in the shelves of the changing table for a long time. But we broke down and put shelves up above the changing table for all of that because he was pulling all the diapers out. Now we put all of that stuff up and out of the way.

Our dresser/changing table is 5 large, wide drawers in the dresser part, and 2 more narrow, but deep drawers off to the right hand side (all one unit).

Wipes, lamp and a few toys go on top of the unit (along with changing pad, obviously). Pad on the left, wipes and stuff on the right for easy access and so you don't have to reach across baby to get wipe while you are changing them.

Top drawer of the changing table: diapers, hair bows, diaper cream, misc. Bottom drawer is extra diapers (day and night), diaper genie refills, wipes refills.

Dresser part:

Top drawer: sleepers, burp clothes, bibs, washcloths.

Bottom drawer: blankets.

All other drawers: clothes! I have onesies, pants, skirts, dresses, sweaters, etc all separated out.

In the closet hangs the special occasion dresses and coats.

Under the crib are two drawers, which is where we keep crib sheets and clothes that are too big for her.

@artbee: totally just realized this!! I have his wipes solution at the head of the changing table and at 6 months he is always squirming to try and grab it... so funny!!

We have a dresser, closet and changing table for storage.

On the changing table we have a tiny bit of room for his wipes solution and a couple other need-on-hand necessities.

We have three fabric bins below the changing pad, the first two hold his cloth diapers and the last hold the rest of his cloth diaper accessories.

On the way bottom we have his quilts folded nicely and one more fabric bin that holds plastic crib pads, extra receiving blankets and sheets.

In his dresser I organized by size. NB, socks and NB hats in the top drawer. The second drawer was 0-3 and 3-6 mos outfits, third was 6-12 outfits and the last was 12mos+ and shoes.

In his closet I organized by size and hung his coats, sweaters, outfits, one-piece outfits etc. I also got a hanging "sweater" organized with drawer bins. I put onesies in all the bins organized by size - the first bin was NB and 0-3 mos onesies, second was 3-6 mos etc.

Now that he is 6 months I've phased out his past sizes, and his clothing collection has grown exponentially so the organizational system has changed!

Also, perhaps consider getting some under the crib storage bins that could provide extra storage for clothes, blankets, etc.

Here is a pic of his closet before he was born. I also had an order the door organizer for his soaps, washcloths, wet bags and other odds n' ends.

I'll take a few pictures tomorrow when C is awake but we have a basic organization system going on.

Dresser: Top drawers are 1 of headbands and hair accessories and 1 of socks, tights, etc. She has 6 other drawers, 4 are her current size. 1 is sleepers and jeans. 1 is onesies and leggings. 1 is tops and 1 is sweaters/hoodies/jackets. The last 2 drawers are full of the next size up.

As for what I fold vs hang. I try to hang any dresses and nicer jackets. We also hang anything of her nicer brands like Gymboree, etc.

We have 2 hanging organizers. One is shelves and I store all our bibs, burp cloths, towels, washcloths, crib sheet and receiving blankets in it. The other is technically a jewelry organizer, but I use it to store shoes.

@sorrycharlie: Wow! That is impressive! It looks like she has so much stuff, yet you managed to get it all neatly organized! I tip my hat to you :) Thanks for the tip about the cubes, definitely need to hit up target. @Running Elley: agreed, I feel like hanging stuff is a bit of a waste--and even the sleepers that are hanging are no where near long enough to get in the way of any storage I put in the closet.

I love all this organization talk. lol I actually need some baby items to organize. But my plan is to keep diapers & supplies under the changing table in baskets. Then we have a PAX wardrobe from Ikea for all his clothes, blankets & whatever else will fit.

Okay, I apologize if the pictures are huge! I'll post then edit to explain -

Her closet is a mess. Blankets, carseat canopy, extra rock and play cover etc are all to left. In the organizer to the right, the hanging clothes on left are 3-6 month, 6-24m are on right. Folded are from top to bottom, 3-6, 6-9, etc by shelf. Shoes and extras are self explanatory lol.

[attach=1296/12/m9uhb9.448x600.image.jpeg]

In top drawer are bibs, a+a blankets, socks, hats and bows.
Second drawer is NB, third is 0-3. Cabinet is wipes and diapers.

@hilsy85: We got ours at Bed Bath and Beyond last September when we completed our wedding registry LOL. They still have cubes there but they are a little more expensive. They have this exact cube at Target now I believe! It has really helped me organize the closet space. A ton of hanging space just wasn’t what we needed for our little guy’s stuff so the extra storage with the cube has been really helpful.

@Running Elley: I am so jealous of your organization! It looks great (I think I told you this before). Where did you get the cube from? I think I'm going to try to do one of those in our closet too. @sorrycharlie: Yes please do! :)

@MegWag: Hmm so it sounds like no clothes in the top drawer! Good to know that that works for you--depending on how bulky diapers/wipes/toiletries are, that's what we might have to do as well.

We are using LO’s dresser as a changing table as well. We’re using cloth diapers and they will be stored in the dresser drawers. I also have a basket of changing supplies (baby powder, wipes, creams, etc.) sitting on top of a small bookshelf that is directly next to the dresser. We put a cube in the closet and baby’s clothes are organized by size and folded in containers of the cube. With boy clothes it doesn’t seem like there’s anything really necessary to hang! If I was having a girl I’d probably hang her dresses but there’s nothing like that for the boys. This is his closet.The buckets on top have blankets in one and carriers (plus nursing cover and shopping cart cover) in them and the small baskets on the side have toiletry things and q-tips!

We don't have a closet (stupid British builders and their lack of closets!) so everything goes in the dresser. It's got really large drawers, so we have divider bins to separate it up.
Top drawer: diapers, burp cloths, wipes, and various toiletries
Second drawer: Actively used clothing. One bin each for shirts, bottoms, onesies, socks, hats, and outfits.
Bottom drawer: Sleepsuits, sweaters and outfits that are still too big.

I've also got a basket of blankets on the bottom shelf of the bookcase and sleepsacks in the nightstand.

I'll take some pictures for you and upload them in a few! We are also using the top of a dresser for her changer.

@TurtleDoves: No...we don't have a separate changing table--we're using the top of the dresser as the changing table (small NYC apartment!). That's a good idea, I think I am probably going to end up keeping 6+ month clothes elsewhere and move stuff around as he grows into it. I think I"ll probably end up putting diapers/wipes/lotions into the right hand side of the top drawer, hopefully that'll be easy enough to access.

@hilsy85: My mom warned me by telling me "you never realize how much space you don't have until you have a baby!" That is proving to be true.
As far as diapers storage goes...you could always keep them in a linens closet and just grab a stack as you need the. Do you have space under the changing table for a small basket where you can put ointment and/or wipes? Because that would work too.
You only need 3 drawers...I stuffed my other drawers with blankets and hats just because I thought "might as well.."
Or you could stick all his 6+ sizes in a Rubbermaid and slide it under your bed because it doesn't need to be in his room until much later?

Everything except for undies and socks in his dresser are new clothes. Everything in his closet are stuff he wears daily.

@hilsy85: as your lo gets older it would be hard to keep all that stuff on top of the changing table anyway. Its a lot of distraction for a squirmy baby.... they'd want to grab it the whole time and its hard enough to get them to lay down without it.
