@Foodnerd81: Haha! We went to CA when I was a bout 20 weeks and I did the same thing! I had just gotten used to the full body boppy at home so it wasn't as fresh in my mind and after a few nights my husband was like, 'why don't we just ask for some more pillows!' duhhh!

@JoJoGirl: Yes! I usually like the window so that's what I selected on all the flights. Big mistake.

@Mrs. Lovejoy: OH that reminds me. Two words: AISLE SEAT!!!! Between getting up to walk around every hour to help circulation and all the peeing, it's essential.

@JerricaBenton: You know, on our last trip, I didn't have enough pillows a lot of the time and it didn't occur to me until literally that very last night that, duh, hotels have extra pillows. I mean-- there were probably pillows in the closet if I had looked. So dumb...

28 Weeks, 7 hour drive to visit in-laws over the holidays. The only thing that was tough was sleeping in a crappy, small bed when I was very used to and dependent on my network of pillows at home. If you're in a hotel though, I'd just request like, 10 extra pillows :)

We just got back from our last fun trip before baby girl comes last night! I'm just over 31W and we flew from Ohio to California (with a layover in Chicago). It was perfectly fine, though the 4th hour on the way to CA was a bit uncomfortable. The trick was finding a balance between drinking enough water so that I wasn't unbearably swollen and finding the opportunity to pee. Honestly, the worst part of the trip was how often and inconvenient it was to find a bathroom. I'm carrying pretty low so I have to pee ALL THE TIME.

@Foodnerd81: Oh! Two flights of 2-3 hrs with a layover will be MUCH easier than one 5-6 hour flight. I think they say the risk for DVT goes up around 4 hrs+. Closer would probably still be better though, I'd be a LOT more uncomfortable flying now (31 weeks) than I was 3 weeks ago.

@JoJoGirl: Yeah, i had a rough time on my last flight, but it was much longer-- 6 hour flight, layover, 4 or 5 hour flight. This would be two flights of 2 or 3 hours each, with layover. I'm hoping we can find someplace closer to go that would be just as fun-- like a 3 hour or less flight.

You'll just have to be super careful on the flights. I was 27/28 weeks when we went to the Caribbean for our babymoon and the flights were more challenging than I expected (3.5 flight to Miami, then another 3.5 hr flight to the island). Plan to stay SUPER hydrated (i had issues with pre-term labor from dehydration so this made me nervous - I drank 6 LITERS of water on both travel days!) and wear compression stockings. My midwife said she doesn't recommend people leaving the contiguous US after 24 weeks... but we didn't know that when we booked our trip! In Cali you should be okay.

I traveled to Mexico at week 27.

The flight will suck, but compression stockings and staying hydrated will be worth it!

How late in your pregnancy did you/would you travel for a non-essential, leisure trip? Some friends just brought up the idea of a girls weekend when I will be 30 weeks pregnant, which would involve 5 or 6 hour flights there and back. It's not for something essential, like a wedding, or an important business trip, but it would be really nice to have one last girls weekend before baby. I'm just not sure if the discomfort of travel would make it not worth it.

We could also do something closer to home, probably, which I think is what we would do if I decide that the travel would be too much, but curious to hear from people who have been there...
