@creativemomma15: i think it's definitely worth going back to the dentist just to make sure that your bite is correct and nothing else is up. however, like @travellingbee:, i had one filling that bugged me for...maybe like 8 months? not quite a year? i didn't trust the dentist that filled it, so asked my FIL who is a dentist about it. he said to give it a month, and it still wasn't any better, so i even had him re-fill it. that made it slightly better, but still not perfect. i've had others that didn't bother me at all, though. so i'm not sure if it depends on the location/depth of the cavity, the filling material, or all of the above! all this to say, i don't think it's necessarily abnormal, but i also don't think it's a bad idea to have it re-checked!

Thank everyone! I'm thinking and hoping it's just that my bite is off. When I feel it with my tongue it does seem filled higher than the same tooth on the other side of my mouth if that makes sense. My teeth can be sensitive in general so that probably isn't helping with the deep filling... And I can clench my jaw at night too. I'm gonna call them tomorrow. I'm so sick of the pain!

I had three fillings a few weeks ago and the only lingering pain I had was from the shots to numb it. I dont think they were very deep though.

@macintosh: yes if they fill them a little "tall" it will bruise the tooth when. You bite down. If it feels like your bite isn't right then go back and have the dentist adjust the height of the filling.

The filling could be affecting your bite. That happened to me before cause I tend to clench me teeth and it was putting extra pressure on that one tooth. I went back and had them grind it down a little.

@travellingbee: I have really sensitive teeth too, maybe that's why mine are always sore. This is good to know, thanks!

I have sensitive teeth and the enamel colored fillings are harder for sensitive teeth. I have to have a special bonding material that helps or else they are sore for a really long time (one molar was sore for a year!) Now that we figured out that bonding stuff, my fillings have been much better. Almost no sensitivity past the first day or two. (My FIL is a dentist and has really helped me figure this all out). The bonding agent is called Xeno for future reference.

I've had tons of fillings--about 2/3 of the time they don't hurt at all, the rest of the time they hurt for a couple of weeks to a month. It always scares me that they weren't done properly when they hurt, but I've kept track of which ones need to be replaced, and there's no relationship with the pain.

I had pain after one they said was deep. They said it would last up to two weeks and if it was longer or got worse it would need a root canal.

I don't think they're supposed to hurt at all. Although my cavity wasn't at the point of hurting yet when I had it filled but at no point did I have pain.

I think it's usually a week or more. Most recently it hurt for well over a month, but when I went back for a check up I found out t hadn't been filed down enough so every time I bit I was pushing on it the wrong way. So if it's bad I would get it checked. I think t also caused a lower filling to break so I had to get that one done but did it with a different dentist. That time it only hurt for a day. So now I think maybe my old dentist just somehow made it hurt worse.

I just had 3 cavities filled on Monday and I'm still having some pain and sensitivity! I hate getting dental work done and am starting to worry that the dentist is going to say something else needs done. The one filling is deep and they said they put medicine on it to help it.

How long did you have pain after getting teeth filled???
