I pumped the day I got home from the hospital, which was day 3 after the birth. I pumped immediately because my breasts were painfully engorged. In the early days I was feeding her pumped breast milk as well as nursing, as well as feeding formula. Now I dont really pump anymore, she is exclusively breastfed, but we will be re-introducing the bottle soon

@Mrs. Bee: When we were readmitted for jaundice, I got to have a hospital bed and share the room to be there to breastfeed. (They had a phototherapy pad rather than the overhead light thingy).

I waited until baby was in the recommended 4-6 week window for a bottle before I pumped, as I really have no use for extra milk and didn't want to encourage engorgement (I relieved engorgement by frequently feeding LO).

I only need a bottle now and then so I can have a glass of wine (had my first one this weekend! horray for pumped milk!). Not going back to work for many months, so I don't need a big supply of milk kicking around.

I think around day 5. I had to start because I was crazy engorged. I started just taking the edge off the engorgement, but quickly found I had to pump a lot for a couple of weeks because I had so much milk. I started tapering off because I was trying to get my supply to calm down, but I wish I had kept it up. It was so easy right at first; now I have to pump 3 times to get what I was getting in one pump in the beginning.

I don't remember exactly but I think it was 3-4 weeks after LO was born.

I actually had to pump right away, because the baby had difficulty latching. Once that was fixed though, I continued to pump after each feeding. I didn't necessary pump a lot but I think it helped increase my supply. By 2 months, I was able to get a lot stored.

I started late, around 3 months. Mainly it was because I was kind of freaked out by the pump. haha. I'll start earlier with this 2nd baby though so get my milk supply better established (maybe around the 2 week mark).

I started about a week after LO was born. I was going to wait a little longer but I had a really sore nipple and that boob became a little engorged so I figured why not. So far I'm only pumping once a day though.

ps - i produced a LOT of colostrum because i pumped, and olive needed it since she stayed in the hospital an extra 5 days and was teeny!

I waited until around week 5 to start pumping regularly. This time I plan on starting right away so I can build up a stash and increase my supply.

I started pumping a couple days after we were home. I did it after feedings a couple of times to increase my milk supply, and now I do it once a day (usually in the mornings) when my breasts still feel full after she's done feeding.

I waited to week 3 so that my supply was well established & to not promote any over supply issues on top of the ones I already had (oversupply is a pain to deal with)

If you breastfed, when did you start pumping and starting your supply? I know everyone is different but I'm wondering how soon after your milk comes in do you start pumping after feedings?
