We had something similar happen - exact same age gap. My got sick and then couldn't handle life. Stopped napping and all hell broke loose. Things got back to normal once he felt better!

I think like you said, its probably just a phase. We try to make sure she gets some 1:1 time and LOTS of outdoor exercise. I find we are keeping her cooped up a lot more now that we need to stay home with the baby but she still needs to get out and burn energy.

It took a good 2-3 months for things to level out at our house. Even though LO1 is a huge daddy's girl and was spending a lot of 1-on-1 time with him, she really had a hard time not having much with me. Once we started making time for that, things got a lot easier.

We have about the same age difference and went through this too. We talked to her and she would tell us it was about baby, so we talked a lot about it. We each tried to have at least a little one on one of the time with her everyday. And timeouts didnt work for us either, they just made her crazier (and they worked before and after great). But it was just so emotional for her. One of us would go with Her to her room and hold her and talk to her while she calmed down. Once we started doing that it got better each day but it was more tantrums for a month or two.

DD1 was 25 months when DD2 was born and she was mostly okay until DD2 was about 3 months old, then she started acting out frequently. DS was an only child at 2.5 and the thats when the tantrums hit...so it might be developmental.

Maybe have some dates with just her if you can? Spend baby's nap time playing, reading and cuddling together especially.

@HappyBaker: Is there any way you or DH can spend one-on-one time with just her? Hopefully it's just a short developmental phase.

DD is 2.5 years old, and DS is 3.5 weeks old. Up until this week, the transition has been great, DD loves her baby brother and has just been awesome with him and us.

This week though, its suddenly like World War 3 in our house over every little thing with her. She is having crazy tantrums like we haven't seen since before she could talk, banging her body on the floor and just screaming / hitting and generally going nuts. She's been sick this week too so I'm hoping that is a part of it, but how long can we expect the craziness to go on for?

Any tips to survive? We are trying to ignore her bad behavior and praise good behavior, but when she's been tantrumming for over half an hour we feel like we have to step in and try to discipline her. Time outs are NOT working.
