It puts the awkwardness back on the questioner and, in most cases, makes them realize their question was inappropriate/none of their business.</p> <p>I planned to BF until 12 mo, but in reality what that meant for me was that I wanted to stop pumping a1 12 mo. Once we were down to wakeup and bedtime nursing only, I didn't see any reason to stop... until I realized that BFing was messing with my hormones and we were having trouble TTC. So I dropped the bedtime feed just before 13 mo and am now thinking about how/when to completely wean (DD is 13.5 mo).</p> <p>What's interesting to me is that *all* of my friends with babies the same age who were BFing at 12 mo are still nursing at least 2-3x/day with no plans to stop. Portland Oregon is so wonderful about extending Breastfeeding in general but sometimes naive friends and family can be pretty obnoxious about it. I just equate it with people who get uncomfortable when two men who are gay kiss in front of them. It's not that they are necessarily judging they just don't understand it. They aren't used to it. Now she is 1 and I feel like I am already getting the weird side-eye and freak kind of of energy from people. Like 1 is the most tolerated length of time BFing is okay.</p> <p>Now I totally feel like an a$$ for anything I've ever said or thought about other people's extended BFing. It just IS NOT common around here. Even in my mommy group, only 1 other mom is still BFing and I recently got an "oh no! not you too?" and all variations of "well, how long ARE/WILL you BF?" </p> <p>Before LO turned 1, I figured I could deal until she was 18 months with the weird looks and questions. I enjoy the bonding and feeling like I give her the best nutrition. But ay - 2 days into 1 y/o and I already am feeling awkward… And it's not even like I BF in front of people or openly talk about it. I get direct questions.</p> <p>Tell me mamas - what are some of your good comebacks? </p>
