I was less than 1 cm dilated at weeks 36-38, and a little bit more at 39 weeks, maybe 2 cm. In weeks 36-38 my doctor predicted I would not go into labor in the next week, but at 39 weeks she correctly predicted that I would go into labor in the next week, and I did, four days later. At 39 weeks she also said that an induction would be easy at that point, because I was ready to go.

I declined all cervical checks until I went into labor naturally at 40-4 but I don't think that dilation is an indicator of anything until you're in labor. I know so many women who were completely closed and went into labor the next day, and my cousin was dilated to a 4 at 36 weeks and she ended up having her son about 5 days late!

I was 1cm from 36 weeks on. 12 hours after my induction at 41 weeks, I was still only 2-3cm. 10 hours later, I delivered.

My friend was 1cm at her 40 week appointment. 2 days later she delivered after 4 hours of contractions and 10 minutes of pushing.

At 36 weeks I was 1 cm and my doctor said almost the same thing at my check. And they kept saying it at other checks I had, but I was only dialated to 1.5-2 cm when my water broke at 39w6d. During labor they kept telling me he was higher so I'm still not sure if it was a difference on people checking or if he moved up.

I'm wondering how many weeks/days before you went into labor you first started dilating?

At my cervical check today the midwife commented that baby is so low now that they'd expect to see a baby that low (engaged? don't know) within 2 weeks of birth, but she also mentioned that my cervix is closed. I'm confused, because doesn't that mean I'm pretty far off?
