2.5 year old had about a 10-14 day cough. 6 month old had one for 3 weeks easily and then got another cold and a long lasting cough again after. This cycle repeated from Nov-Feb this year.

My little one (14 months) has had a cough pretty much since the beginning of September. We've had it checked many times and the doctor said it sounded like just a normal cough. Some weeks it's worse than others. It has been one cold after another for this guy.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about a lingering cough this time of year. It took nearly 6 weeks for E's cough to go away this year. But it was really only in the mornings or after lots of activity.

Feels like forever! We got an inhaler today - most of DD’s cough is allergy related - and I can already tell a difference.

@ms.mermaid: us too, literally November through mid-February. some weeks it was slightly better, some weeks it was slightly worse. ugh it was (is?) dreadful. we also took them in a few times, but same, no concerns, it just lingered.

@Amorini: I hope it's not RSV! But the timing/season fits, and so do the symptoms. If I had gone with him to the Dr, I would have asked about that directly, but my in laws took him instead to minimize exposure to the baby. Thanks for the well wishes... LO2 is still doing well, as of now, and we have a well-check tomorrow so hopefully they'll listen to her heart and lungs again.

Really hoping and praying that your littlest one stay healthy! RSV with a teeny baby would be scary — not be as easy as we had it.

DS had RSV in mid-November (was a year old at that point so not serious) ... and got the double ear infection too! He was otherwise fine by the time he got on the antibiotics for the ear infection, but had the lingering cold into December. In fact, we were at the hospital’s pediatric ward in early December because he broke out into bad hives 10 days into the antibiotic (no more amoxicillin for us!). The pediatrician said, “That’s an RSV cough!” and he was not worried about it because it really lingers. And you know he’s seen some RSV in his day. He said that it can take up to a month to six weeks for the cough to clear up.

Lo1, 2 yrs old, is on day 10 of being sick. All symptoms have been gone for 2 days now, except a cough. The cough only pops up when he is really active or tantruming. Originally he has a bad cold or RSV which turned into a double ear infection. My in-laws took him to the dr on Wednesday and he got antiobiotics, and he has been improving daily since then. The dr said to keep him away from the newborn until 48 hours of antibiotics, which was noon on Friday.... but he still has that cough so it makes me nervous. How long did the cough linger in your household? I know all children and illnesses are different, but just wondering.
