Same as @BabyBoecksMom & @pregnantbee. This summer, we had some slight breathers but now that the winter is back again, at 17 months, she is still getting sick every two weeks or so. It's depressing. I think it stops when they stop putting so many things in their mouths - like around 3???

She had been in daycare for 9 months when she got the worst illness she had ever had - roseola. That kept her home for a week. :(

I think H is a great age to kinda go through this. It took us about 8 months to a year but part of that I believe was because she was so young at daycare (less than a year old). I also think it got better when she was more mobile and sickness didn't settle so bad in her chest (she could sit up and walk, etc).

Its tough to see your kid with a runny nose/cough but that really isn't them being "sick". Hopefully you can get past the major stuff and move on quickly.

I don't want to scare you, but we're at 22 months and she's still sick almost all the time. We now get one (sometimes two) week breaks. It breaks my heart to see her sick like that all the time.

Sadly, we're still in the middle of it over here. LO has been to daycare for 13 months and has been sick quite often (who am I kidding? all. the. time.) since about January. So still going strong. I'm hoping this becomes more manageable soon b/c it is brutal.

LO started daycare in July and we had three and a half rough months where she, DH, and I were continuously sick. I was the a-hole that brought germs to work and got everybody sick. We've done better the last month. Fewer colds and DH & I seem to be getting hit less. I expect winter colds to kick in soon.

Hang in there!

@Freckles: Well they do - but I think when it just runs constantly, they have to let it go here and there to a certain degree. I felt the same way about seeing kids anywhere with a runny nose, I was like "can't you wipe that kid's nose????" But as my poor little girl sat in the Target cart and had a face full of snot after I had just wiped her face 2 minutes before (which is a FIGHT!), I was just like, "Fine. I"m letting you be for now. I don't want your skin to hurt or end up bleeding." My little snotaholic.

@Mrs. Blue: I cannot imagine having two that pass stuff back and forth- you poor poor woman:( I am so sorry! Before my daughter was in daycare, I couldn't stand to see a kid with a messy face. I couldn't stand for my daughter to have so much as a smudge on her face or a booger hanging out her nose. I didn't understand how parents could just let their kids be a hot mess, but now I do. I am afraid I'm going to rub her skin raw if I keep wiping her nose, and it is just constantly flooded. I do the Nose Frida, but that is so tough and I have to hold her down and so we don't get to do that too often. I don't mean to sound harsh about her snotty friend, bc I truly do understand it now, but I was basically amazed at the volume of snot on one little face. And of course I really was amazed at the irony that my child who I have painstakingly kept away from germs (dousing the cart at Target, etc) was attracted to what looked like the germiest kid there:) It's my sarcastic humor! I hope your boys get on the up and up really really soon:(

@PrincessBaby: Don't they wipe their noses?? I think it also depends on the daycare. When she was in the younger baby room, they were super diligent about washing the kids' hands all the time and wiping their noses. She only got sick twice in the 6 months she was in that room.

LO has been in daycare for 8 months and luckily the worst thing she had was roseola. Runny nose and minor coughing isn't a big deal, and i think H is old enough to withstand it. When LO was in the other daycare, she had a fever the first week i had to go back to work. I had so much mommy guilt, so i understand!!

DS has been at daycare for a little over a month now, and he's going on week 3 of being sick. He sounds like he's getting better, but who knows. He got me sick and I'm trying not to take meds since we're nursing so my road to recovery is slow and painful as well. I hear ya on the antibodies while BF! Kick in already!!! haha!

I kept DS home the first week he got sick because he had RSV and the pedi said he was contagious. Thankfully, work is flexible and allowed me to work from home. I sent him to school the following week. All the kids there seemed kind of snotty also. It's this dang weather. One day its 75 and the next it's 53. Ugh!

We've only been in daycare for three months, so we are still in the thick of it. Each week is something new but it's hardly ever bad enough keep him home. I expect that this will last throughout the winter and I'm hoping that we'll have some relief in the spring.

My pediatrician did assure me that study after study shows an early exposure to germs via daycare or older siblings is one the best things you can do for a kid's long term health. I keep repeating that line to myself each day that I see LO feeling crummy! I know it doesn't fix your situation with the new job but maybe her boogery friend will help her to be an amazingly healthy kid!

I'm the wrong person to ask because our boys have been at daycare for about 6 days between the two of them in the last 3 1/2 weeks. It's super stressful to have to be out that much since we don't have family, etc. to watch them when they're sick. But, that is the exception to the rule to be can't-go-to-daycare sick for that long. Honestly, I wouldn't be to hard on the "snot face" kid because I think most of the kids at daycare are like that. I know our boys have constant runny nose even when they are "healthy" now. It's kind of a beat down and I really hope next year is better. Since we have two little germ gatherers, they get sick even more because they pick up different bugs and then trade. We're trying to figure out other options, but other than a full-time nanny, I don't think it makes a lot of difference on the sick front.

Just as a side note, keep in mind that the first few weeks of daycare are a huge adjustment for both of you anyway. Probably some of the guilt to feel is just part of that transition, too. We still send our boys as long as they aren't in violation of the sick policy, which at our daycare includes fever free for 24-hours, no diarrhea, eye infections, etc.

We experienced the daycare plague until 5-6 months or so. It was miserable, but our immunity is awesome now. LO still gets sick like croup occasionally, but it's a lot easier to handle than before.

Hmmm... We started daycare last March, which was nearing the end of the season. DD was 7 weeks when she started, and only really spent a couple weeks being snotty. But, it's also an in-home daycare, so there were only a couple extra kids, and the lady is really good at cleaning toys and books every day.

@PrincessBaby: I'd plan on H being sick most of the winter. I missed a LOOOOT of work the first 4 - 6 months. B rarely gets sick now, but he's been at daycare for over a year.
