We saw some results within a week, and a drastic improvement by the 2.5 week mark!

@hellobeeboston: I know, I feel so bad for him. I feel like things get better for a few weeks and then get bad again.

@MrsKoala: thanks! I hope that we see a difference if it is reflux.

We didn't use Prevacid but my son did have terrible reflux. It took one week of medication before we saw a huge difference and two weeks before he was like a different child.

@gingerbebe: thanks, I guess only time will tell! Can't go back to breastmilk, completely dried up...I just know something is not right and I don't know if it's the formula (but he was doing so awesome on it the first 3 weeks...) or if he maybe has silent reflux? He has a ton of black like coffee grounds in his poop and that indicates upper GI bleeding, which is why his dr thinks maybe undiagnosed reflux so I'm praying this works!!

@hilsy85: thanks! Sounds like 1-2 weeks is when I can expect to see a change if he has it...

@Jackiedavis87: oh man that sounds rough!! DS has been increasingly fussy lately but no clue why. We also started solids (just cereal and sweet potatoes) so it could be that too, but the blood started way before that. Who knows!

When we did a formula challenge for DS' reflux, we started with Alimentum RTF, but then switched to Nutramigen, which seemed to work a little better. I know people go with the Alimentum because of a corn solid thing, so I don't know if that's an issue for you guys, but perhaps its something to consider. We did eventually just go back to breastmilk (I was on a total elimination diet for it though), and 1 bottle of Gerber gentle, so it was overall like a month on the hypoallergenic stuff.

My DS is on Nexium but it took 7 days (longest of my life) for him to go from screaming 12 hours a day to only screaming 2 lol and 14 days for total improvement. At that point I could tell that spitting up definitly wasn't hurting him anymore. I also want to say that DS is on alimentum rtf also and still has horrible gas that wakes him, and that's after being on Nexium for 2 months. So in my opinion it's the formula we haven't switched yet, but I've been considering it.

My friend went from zantac to prevacid and her DD showed great improvement in two weeks. She also definitely had reflux.

Well, we went from Zantac to Prevacid, so I don't know if that makes a difference, but the transition itself was rough for about a week, and then when it kicked in, he was so much better. But we really did have reflux, so there's that.

DS( almost 6 months) has been having some issues lately (black specks in stool, tons of gas at night waking him all night long) and his pedi wants to try him on Prevacid before deciding if we need to switch him from Alimentum RTF to neocate or elecare. I'm hesitant to have him on it if he doesn't need it- he doesn't really have any reflux symptoms. But I figure we could try it before deciding next steps and I'm wondering how soon you noticed results for your LOs once they were on it??? Thanks!!
