I'll answer my own question in case someone else is looking for an answer! By day 6 the pain was gone but I was still leaking here and there. I don't know how far out I am now -- a few weeks and I can sleep without a bra but still have a random drop or two depending on what is going on (crying baby in a car / pinch something while sleeping etc).

Just a couple days and I did nothing. I just quit cold turkey after a few words. It's a perfectly fine decision.

Well I'm not sure how this compares since I didn't breastfeed, but after my milk came in, I had about 3-4 days of really painful engorgement, then I leaked for weeks afterward.

@reverie: I mean, not a TON. But enough that I kept pads in my bra for a month.

I breastfed until 8 or 9 weeks then pumped until 16ish weeks. I was also only pumping about 14 oz a day. I stepped down from 4 to 0 pumping sessions over the course of 2 weeks. Once I stopped entirely I started taking sudafed to help me dry up. I felt like I was still producing/uncomfortable for about a week and I leaked for like another month or so.

@reverie: oh I very rarely got let downs (and I would only get them for the pump) but thr second day I kept getting them. Nothing was coming out, but I just kept getting that tingly feeling.

Good luck!

@Ms. RV: I hardly ever felt let downs when I was actively nursing... so hopefully tomorrow goes smooth. I have to be out of the house almost all day somewhat solo parenting. I think I'll need a big glass of something by the time I get home!

I weaned at the end of 6 or 7 weeks due to low supply. I had one day of engorgement, followed by a day where I was getting random letdowns every half hour, then nothing.

No personal experience to offer, but you could try sudafed to speed up the process, if needed. I've heard that helps.

I am six weeks post baby and am stopping breast feeding for a slew of reasons. I've been exclusively pumping (the primary reason)-- it's really hard to parent two children while tethered to a pump... Anyway, I was pumping about 14 ounces a day (I never responded well to the pump so I've been supplementing since we were discharged from the hospital).

Right now I have cabbage on my breasts and I pumped about an ounce this morning to relieve pressure.... with my son I stopped later and after the pump had forced me to wean (I was putting out about 4 ounces in two hours of pumping a day while working / at bedtime) and had no engorgement to speak of / no leaking / nada. This time I am leaking a bit and am just looking for some anecdotal stories as to when I can expect to feel a bit better!

Thanks
