@sorrycharlie: We've been here over a year and I still have some boxes in the basement! Lol.
To 'feel' settled, not long. DH and I moved around a lot so it didn't take long to feel comfortable. But I don't think I'll ever feel like the house is done. I'm constantly adding/changing decor.

@sorrycharlie: aren't you also pregnant? I'm pretty sure unpacking with a toddler and a baby would take me roughly forever. When we moved into this condo, I was pregnant with C, no kids yet, and it took forever to feel settled.

we moved in february and we're still not settled, but we only plan on being here until around the same time next year... so we're really not putting much effort into it. we've had our house basically in the same state since maybe a few weeks after we moved!

We also have a dog and a toddler, and I'm pregnant. When we moved recently, it took us about 3 months to fully move in. So many distractions! It's been frustrating, especially since we only intend to be here for a year or so! You're not alone.

@sorrycharlie: It took us ages! We moved into our new home in November, so we had a nearly 2.5 yr old and a 9 month old (no dog though!). We had all of our stuff from here, plus our large shipments of furniture and boxes that had come over from Australia and the US, plus all of the new furniture and appliances we'd had to buy here and store until our move in date. It was mayhem!

My mom came over for a few weeks to help us unpack/watch the girls whilst we unpacked, and it still wasn't until Christmas (about six weeks later) that the house was starting to feel somewhat less chaotic, albeit not quite as organised as I'd like.

We're now nearly ten months in and have done a lot of work on the house so we're still not fully settled in/organised, but we're getting there! Three weeks is still so early - cut yourself some slack!

@sorrycharlie: haha. we just moved across the country at the beginning of august with a dog, a 3 year old, and a (now) 9 month old. we had my in-laws come the same day as the movers did, and they stayed for a week so that we could get all of the "critical" things done then. we were mostly unpacked (boxes) within 2-3 days, but still had some unpacked knickknacks, books, etc. And I've just been slowly taking care of those, hanging pics, and other decorating over the last couple of weeks. still some low priority things to do, but starting to feel more settled!

We just moved near the end of April. We started unpacking right away but didn't really fully unpack until three weeks in. Because our new house was much bigger than our old one, we bought new furniture and got it about a month and a half in. There is still a lot we want to do (paint the walls being a big one) but I'd say 4 months in I finally felt like it was our house.

Uh, at least 6 months! More like a year...we moved to a new town/new house 8 months ago and there are still empty walls, etc. Our bedroom is a disaster since that always gets left to do last. We moved with a toddler and a doggie (who quickly got sick and we had to put down :bummed: )

Give yourself plenty of time! Its so hard to unpack and organize with little ones unless you have someone babysit them so you can work.

We moved in mid-March and still don't have pictures on our wall in our bedroom and the closets are a mess. But it felt "set up" and settled within about 3 weeks-- we had lo's bday party 3 weeks after moving so it had to be company-ready by then

Still working on feeling settled a year later! We unpacked all necessities but a lot of decor items are sitting in boxes in our attic. I still have tons of painting to do and hanging stuff on walls before I feel truly settled and at home!

Honestly...probably 5-6 months. I mean it felt like mine...but it took a while to feel cozy and homey!

I probably had most boxes unpacked by 3 months - with the rest lingering in the storage room in the basement until about 6-9 months in!

FWIW I had a 8 month old when I moved.

We've been in this house for 3.5 years and I still don't feel settled. There are still rooms that are the original color and some things that aren't hung up, not to mention the garage full of crap we haven't gone through yet. It feels more like it's 'mine' and settled when I do projects on it.

@sorrycharlie: You're not inept! We moved a month ago and while everything is unpacked in the house (still a few boxes in the garage) we haven't hung anything on the walls and I'm still definitely not completely settled. There is still packing paper from the movers in a few of my dresser drawers! I've accepted that it will probably be another month before I feel like it's mostly done - but at this point it is livable and I do feel at home. AND - I had help so if you are 100% on your own with two babies and a dog, cut yourself a ton of slack!

I too can't live with boxes. But this time around it took a few months to finish ordering stuff to hang on the walls. Ugh I hate that transitioning feeling. We rent though so we're planning yet another move. Turns out I don't like the city we moved to, moving back to old neighborhood.

It's been three years and I still don't feel "settled". It feels like my home, but there is too many outstanding things for me to feel relaxed. A big part is the unfinished basement that is storage for all the shit we need to go through and get rid of.

Less than a week. We got settled in pretty fast (it helped that we moved into a much bigger place than we'd come from so there was plenty of room for things and no need to tetris things away).

Also I'm sort of a grow where you're planted person. I don't really ever miss former places and I feel "at home" anywhere I am (that has my stuff and my people) within a couple days whenever I move.

We moved almost two months ago and are still not totally settled! But we renovated the master suite, so we've been using that bathroom but sleeping in another room so it's hard to feel settled with stuff all mixed up. We also still need window coverings and it's starting to make me crazy. To be honest, we do still have a bunch of boxes in a spare bedroom but I plan to take a day off to deal with it once we get all the work done.

I unpack super quick (I can't stand it if I don't), so in terms of just that, like 2-3 days.

But there are sooo many little details to settle, things to buy, personal touches, etc... I'll probably say a good 5-6 months before I really feel homey.
