Once we narrowed down the neighborhood we liked and actually looked with the realtor, it only took a day (I think our house was the 9th or 10th house we looked at that day). We'd do weekends of open houses and showings with an agent for months! Then we slowed down a bit in the Fall but happened upon an open house on our own and that was it!
